The Lavender Knight

Track Lighting
Gay Flag

This is a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist. The Lavender Knight, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, and the powerless, in a world of bigots and closed-minded individuals.

If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, I'll explain. I am a " Knight Rider" fan (among other shows). Okay, I'm not Michael Knight, but it sounded good. The very concept of knights has always intrigued me. From King Arthur's round table to Michael Knight and the idea of standing up for those who can't or won't stand up for themselves. Like Michael Knight, I too am crusading for what I believe is right. The links below are a few of the things that I'm fighting for.

Just in case you are so dense that you don't know what the flag stands for, I'm gay. It took me quite a while to come to terms with it, but I did. After admitting the truth to myself (the only "choice" that I made was to forget about suicide and to be honest with myself), I started trying to learn about gay culture. Well, if you aren't queer you probably won't understand what I'm talking about but, gay life isn't easy. The rate of suicide for gay teens is seven times higher than straight teens (according to a University of Minnesota research study.) Then, there's the issue of discrimination (losing your job or apartment because of what you do in the privacy of your own home.) I haven't had too much of a problem with discrimination because I'm not "obviously" gay (a flame, flambouyant), but that doesn't mean that I haven't had my fair share of homophobic comments from strangers, friends(?), and family.

After watching the movie "stonewall", I was outraged at the past conditions that "WE" had to put up with. I decided it was time for me to do my part to change the world, and a twenty four year old activist was born. Below are a few of the causes that I am supporting.

"...One man can make a difference, Michael..."
- Wilton Knight (from "Knight Rider")

The Walt Whitman School in Dallas
This private school in Dallas, Texas is dedicated to educating students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered or heterosexual.
Human Rights Campaign
The Human Rights Campaign envisions an America where lesbians and gay people are ensured of their basic equal rights - and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work, and in the community.
The Hate Crimes Prevention Act
This bill would add the phrase "actual or perceived religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability of any person" to existing hate crimes laws. Take a look at the letter I wrote to my Senator.

I now have a whopping THREE web pages to look after!

Why not visit my web page at school?

Or you could visit my very own web server?
(although it's still under construction!)

I have tried various arrangements on my homepage and tried to be considerate of various screen sizes and modem speeds. Thus, in an effort to speed up the loading, I move the webrings to their own pages. Please direct all hate mail on this subject to me at: this address.
