Enemy!
i am weary of this battle
it has raged so long.
Is there hope of winning?
Or will this be my last song?

my muscles ache from tension,
each breath, painfully slow
i dare not show my weakness
my enemy will know.

i have heard the proclamations
of her kindness, warmth and love;
that her empathy is healing
gives peace, and hope -- like the dove.

i fear she will bewitch
my crippled, bleeding soul
if i let her close enough,
allow my pain to show.

i can sense her nearness
to my hiding place.
Through bitter tears of anger
i look into her face.

i can no longer struggle
have no strength left to flee.
i can see her now, so clearly....
      my enemy  is  was me!
