Mercedes Lackey

Three years ago I came across a copy of "Magic's Pawn" in a second-hand bookstore. I didn't have very high expectations, but bought it anyway, seeing as I had nothing else to read. I started to plod through the introductory paragraphs that weekend but tossed the book aside, too distracted by assorted other things to pay much attention. A month or so later I stuffed MP in a bag to serve as a time-killer while babysitting for the neighbors. The kids were being good (an incident that will probably never repeat itself) so I sat down in a sunny spot to read. I gave the book probably half of the attention it deserved. Then I read a passage that made me look twice. Without even realizing, I had devoured the rest of the book in two hours. And, once the kids were in bed, re-read it.

In short, her novels (particularly those in the Valdemar series) are some of the best treatments gay characters have gotten in modern fantasy. Not to mention some of the best animals have gotten ^_- Her writing manages to be interesting without becoming over-stimulating or confusing, possesing a light somewhat irreverent sense of humor. And dammnit, she knows how to rip your heart out and stomp it flat ^^;

Below you'll eventually find information on all of the books in the Valdemar series, links to other Mercedes Lackey sites and a list of recommended reading for those who enjoy her work.
