Steele Grappling Techniques

Front Mount Reversals

Keep your head against the ground
Keep your leg flat against the ground
Don't let the guy get the hooks in
Try to trap the same arm same leg
Always go for the "upa" first. Then try other reversals
Knee Escape works very well

BACKDOOR ESCAPE:
This technique works great when the guy has a high mount on you or has his knees up under your armpits and you can't move that well. When this happens, get him to move EVEN FARTHER up on you. Move yourself backwards so he is riding as high up on you as possible. Then swing your legs over his back and get your feet into his armpits. Once you get your feet planted into his armpits, hold onto his arms and push with your feet. You will slide out the backdoor and be in a position to mount.

KNEE ESCAPE:
You are flat on your back and he does not have the hooks in. If he does have the hooks in, get them out first! Bring your right foot to your butt. Do not leave any room for him to get his hooks in. Turn onto your left side. Put your left and right hands up against his right knee. You are not pushing his knee; you are just holding it in place. Make sure your left leg is straight. Now using your right leg push backwards so that your left leg comes through his legs. You do this AS you are holding onto his knee. As your knee comes through put him in half or full guard.

LEG TRAP TO GAURD REVERSAL:
Make sure you are flat against the ground and that the hooks are not in. Turn onto your left hip slightly. Take your right leg and throw it OVER your opponents right leg (you are bascially trapping HIS right leg with YOUR right leg). Now that his leg is trapped, take both hands and push against his right knee. Push his knee until you have him in the half guard. Now, if possible, swivel your hips and get your other leg out to get the full guard.

FAKE BRIDGE TO LEG TRAP:
This is an excellent move. Trap your opponents right leg and right arm. Your opponents right side should be completly trapped and he will begin to think you will bridge him off. Bridge him very hard. As you bridge his left leg will come off the ground (as long as the hooks are not in). As his leg comes off the ground, slide YOUR right leg out and take the half guard. Then if possible, swivel your hips and take your left leg out to get the full guard.

MOUNT REVERSAL:
If you are mounted on a guy, and want a good way to flip him over on his back to get the back mount, do the following. Do something to get him to pass one of his arms to the opposite side of his body. I'll use the right arm, for example. Throw some punches at your opponent (if in a real fight) or put your left hand in his left collar, to try to get him to grab it. Watch out for the escape. When his right arm is over his neck or upper chest, push down on his elbow with your right hand, and with your left hand, reach under his neck and grab his wrist. You can hook one of his legs and control him from there. or you can continue pulling on his wrist. This will cause him to flip over onto his stomach. From there get your hooks and continue in the back mount.
