The Grobbevogel
from Ti Ta Tovenaar
The 'Grobevogel' is one of a kind...
It was played by Teja Vossen.

Though my website is only about Sesame Street Muppets, this large bird was as famous one like Pino.
So I have to write about him!
This childerens program was called "Ti Ta Tovenaar". (tovenaar-magician)

The show aired from 1972 untill 1974. It came on for only 5 minutes a day. Each day one little story and one song about Ti Ta the magician and his daughter Tika. Who tried to learn her fathers magic.

They lived in a castle on the clouds.
There were more puppets in the program then the Dutch version of Sesamestreet ever had. Like in this picture on the left. They called Grobbebollen (Groentje een Geeltje).
They were puppets on a string, who lived in Tika's bedroom.

Later on in the show came a Grobbe-band and more actours, to make a surreal world where magicians and witches lived together with strange creatures.

With Tika there also lived a real living chimpansee (also due to a wrong spell).
And after one year the Grobbevogel laid eggs.. more trouble off course for Tika.

The show was a real hit and all who watched it in the 70's is still a fan.
The Bird was in the beginning a background puppet. He was little and lived in a cage. After a few episodes Tika tried a spell for something, but it didn't quit do what it suposed to do!
The potion blew up and when she looked up, the bird was gone!!!

Trough the glass bowl, Ti Ta found the bird downstairs on earth.

There as a small problem... he wasn't little anymore.
Because of Tika's spell he became a huge bird. And made a lot of noise!

From then on he was locked up in the castle, because it was dangerous for people to see him. Then they would learn about magicians. People weren't allowed to know!

Every now and then the Grobbevogel escaped and costed trouble for Tika and her dad.
Grobbe vogel was in that time better looking then Pino. Although Pino was easier and more complicated to perform.
(Like Big Bird) Pino's legs are like pants and the rest of the body is the muppet.
Grobbevogel is the other way arround. His legs and body is the puppet, and his head is worn like a mask.
