Background: Sonic the Hedgehog found a strange robot on a beach. After learning that the robot ran on Chaos Emeralds, he named the robot Emerl. Emerl’s key characteristic is the ability to acquire skills by capturing its opponents’ skills in battle. Sonic and his friends discovered that Emerl is actually from an ancient civilization and its real name is Gizoid. When Shadow the Hedgehog discovered that Professor Gerald Robotnik worked on Gizoid, he realized he had something in common with the robot and decided to help Emerl.
