"The Chaos Effect"

The natives on Floating Island don't like visitors, but today they're getting visitors that are coming not to fight but to have fun.

Part 1:
Every freedom fighter has been invited to an amusement park.  Knuckles is upset since he didn't invite anybody.  Renfield T. Rodent appears, saying that this park was designed for the freedom fighters and suggests they go into the Hall of Mirrors for free.  The freedom fighters and Knuckles step inside and soon a bright light appears.  Sonic, Tails, Sally, Rotor, Bunnie, and Antoine are trapped in mirrors.  Robotnik appears and explains that the whole park was a trap.  All freedom fighters will come into the Hall of Mirrors and Mobius will belong to Robotnik.  Knuckles tries to fight Robotnik, but Robotnik explains that the energy released transformed Knuckles' body and his powers no longer exist.  Knuckles leaves the hall as Robotnik laughs.

Part 2:
Knuckles reflects on his situation and notes the loss of his powers which means he has lost his sharp knuckles and shorter dreadlocks.  Suddenly Charmy Bee flies by and tells Knuckles he should look towards the future rather than the past.  Knuckles wonders why Charmy wasn't with everyone at the park, and Charmy explains that he isn't "everyone."  Espio the Chameleon appears on a tree and says he heard the conversation.  A loud noise surprises everyone, and Vector the Crocodile dances toward the group.  Espio grabs Vector's headphones, and a rumble from a mountain knocks everyone off of their feet.  Mighty the Armadillo appears from the newly formed hole in the mountain and says he tunneled through with some help.  Glowing eyes appear from the hole, and Mighty introduces everyone to two robots named Heavy and Bomb.  Heavy explains that Robotnik had built the two robots to repair damaged systems.  However, Heavy and Bomb were powered by power gems that gave them consciousness and they escaped from Robotropolis.  Knuckles doesn't think he can trust them, so the two robots show him the power gems they took from Robotropolis.  Knuckles knows that with the power gems they can fight back.

Part 3:
Robotnik is proud of his plan when suddenly an alarm goes off.  All of the rides have been activated at the same time, which means that Knuckles must of had help.  Robotnik uses his Material Transport System to summon Mecha-Sonic (from Sonic the Hedgehog #25) and orders the robot to stop Knuckles' freedom fighters.

As Knuckles and his group approach the Hall of Mirrors, Mecha-Sonic appears.  They are able to stop Mecha-Sonic by using teamwork, and Bomb explodes next to Mecha-Sonic.  Heavy explains that Bomb can pull himself together after a crisis.  Suddenly a large and red version of Mecha-Sonic appears.  Knuckles uses a power gem to grow in size and punches Mecha-Sonic into the Hall of Mirrors.  The freedom fighters escape and Knuckles regains his powers.  Knuckles easily defeats Mecha-Sonic while Robotnik tries to escape.  Robotnik pushes Renfield out of the way and escapes on a Moon Rocket Ride.  Renfield tries to run away, but the Chaotix trap him.

Later Renfield is arrested, and Sonic remarks how Knuckles was able to make new friends and form his own team.  Everyone is upset since they don't want to be a part of a team.  Sonic says he can't help but think that it isn't the last time he'll see the Chaotix.

"Tag!  You're 'It!'"

Charmy tags Mighty, who isn't pleased.  Charmy asks if Mighty has anything better to do.  Mighty realizes that Charmy is right and chases Charmy.  Soon Mighty comes across Vector and tags him, slamming him into the ground.  Vector is upset and tries to tag Mighty.  Mighty chops down a tree to defend himself.  Vector jumps out of the way and hears a voice.  Vector is shocked, and Espio, who had been asleep, appears.  Vector tags Espio and runs away.  Espio tries to chase Vector and trips on something.  A figure appears, and Espio says that he's never seen the figure before.  The figure disappears (he will be revealed in the Sonic the Hedgehog comics).  Charmy stops by to see what's wrong and Espio tags Charmy, continuing the game.

"The Hunt is on!"

Knuckles yells at everyone to duck, and a series of explosions follows.  Knuckles asks if everyone is okay and says that they're under attack.  He's not sure if it's Robotnik or this new person called Archimedes.  Vector falls into a hole, and Charmy flies down to him.  Vector says he can wait there while Knuckles says they need a rope or a vine.  Mighty hears a whistling sound.  Small blue balls fly towards Knuckles, Mighty, and Charmy.  Knuckles tells everyone to duck, but Charmy is hit.  After locating Charmy, Knuckles says that he hasn't seen Espio for a few minutes.  Espio appears and finds out that Knuckles had spotted him earlier in the morning.  Knuckles decides to leave Charmy behind to sleep, and he leaves with Espio and Mighty.  Espio wants to know what is going on, but Knuckles says that they're being attacked by an enemy.  A robot appears and heads for Mighty.  Mighty is ready for a challenge, and Knuckles and Espio continue moving forward.  Knuckles believes that they can figure out what's going on as long as they keep moving.  A figure appears and kidnaps Espio.  By the time Knuckles turns around, he realizes he is alone.  A voice scolds Knuckles, telling him that he could have succeeded if he had not left his friends behind.  The voice continues by saying that Knuckles has a choice.  He must decide which is more important: the safety of his friends or the Floating Island.

(Knuckles will face this decision in Sonic the Hedgehog #31.)
