THIRAIKKU-P-PINNAL

Making a Cinema is not an easy thing. People who watch the cinema comment in one line that it is good or it is bad. But making a cinema needs a lot of hard work. In fact, it is a collective work. The Tamil Cinema Industry, which produces nearly 800 films in a year is the highest producing industries in the World. In one of SIMMAM’s programmes entitled Thiraikku-p-pinnal , we interviewed prominent film personalities of Tamil Cinema about making a successful Cinema. Mr. Parthipan, who entered to Tamil cinema through his first cinema Pudhiya Paadhai  emphasized for  a good script work. He narrated his experience of doing a neat screenplay and a powerful climax. Then came Mr. K.Balachander, who is said to be one among the doyens of Tamil cinema. He stressed the need to extract the potential from the artiste. He believed that a good director alone can extract the acting potential from the artiste. To support his view, we have taken a film clipping from his film Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal . As the Director felt that it is the artiste who has to show his talent, we interviewed Mr.Kamal Hassan who has acted as hero in number of films. He narrated his experiences as an actor and when specifically about his acting in Aboorva Sahodarargal, he explained the difficulties faced in changing the roles and the difficulties vanished from mind once the movie clicked well and was received by the audience.

Mr. Radha Ravi who does villain role in films in the last three generations. His father M.R.Radha, his brother M.R.R.Vasu were also known for successful villain roles. Mr. Radha Ravi narrated an incident where he was refused too water for his car’s radiator when it was boiling just because he acted against the popular hero, M.G.R. He attributed this incident as a victory for his acting.

Is a cinema  successful without good music. Dr.K.J.Jesudoss, the popular playback singer explained how music makes a film enjoyable. He accepts that it is the music director who is to be praised for getting a good music from the singers. Comedy also plays a vital role in films. Mr. S.S.Chandran who is a well-known comedy artiste explains how comedy plays an important role  in the films. He dates back his experience with Kalaivanar N.S.Krishnan, Chandra babu, Nagesh and other comedy actors.

We also interviewed Mr.Pandurangan who records the music at the studios and the programme was presented by Saranya, one of the popular artiste of Tamil Cinema.

This programme was telecast on a Deepavali day during 1992 over Chennai Doordarshan Kendra.
