VEDHA
Though it is fast fading out from the scene, it is one
of the best systems of family life which India developed. Yes, it is the
Indian Joint Family System, which India is proud of produced. But unfortunatesly,
this system is fast eroding from the scene. The Joint family system produced
very good results, It shun the ego problems, it cultivated the habit of
give and take, it developed obedience to elders, it respected the young
talents. And abpve all it provided security to one and all in the family.
The old were looked after by the young ones and the young ones were guided
properly by the aged.
But what happens now. In the guise of individuality,
the family honours are forgotten. Ego spearheads among the members of the
family. Even the husband and wife are not spared. Their egoism lead to
rifts and the differences crop up. In the absence of propoer guidance from
the elders, the gap widens which in turn leads to breaches in marriage
life. Painful, but unavoidable, the couples get seperated. And it ends
not only there. The children of the family who are witness to the whole
drama are driven to pieces. Their young mind gets corrupted and their future
is devasted.
Recently, we came across to the call by the Prime Minister
of England, Mr.Blair who requested his country men to respect the family
values. In fact, his government was prepared to spend a few million pounds
to preach this morale among his people.
In our project, VEDHA, this is to be emphasised. VEDHA,
the octogenerian character, goes to the rescue of her great great
grand daughter, who is married and settled at London. She develops and instigates
a family feud which leads seperation between husband and wife and also
creates a scar on India among the elders of the family. VEDHA goees to
London and convinces her great great grand daughter and reunites the seperated
couple much to the relief of the elders of both the families.
