YUVA BHARATHAM

YUVA is one among the sixty months of Tamil calender. Yuva means youth. The year begins during the month of April, according to English calender. During the dawn of a Tamil New year, it is a custom to read out the almanac which predicts the good and bad aspects of that particular year. And the beginning of the year would mark the blessings of the saints and pontiffs.

During the dawn of the year YUVA, we wanted to present a kind of new programme. After the pontiff, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swami of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam and after the reading out of the year’s almanac, we presented the programme in an unique way. We interviewed the old men and women who attained 60 years and who were the youths of the previous cycle of Yuva year. We interviewed Sangeetha Bheeshma Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, who was then a youth. He narrated his youth period and reiterated that his hard work during his teenage took him to this heights. We, then interviewed few other old people who exchanged their memorable youth period with us.

We, then went on to interview the students of Vivekananda College, who formed part of the present generation. The youngsters admired their seniors and  felt that they do not have proper guiding factor to lead them to good path. They recalled the words of Swami Vivekananda, who asked, give me 100 young men and I shall change the future of the nation .

We felt that the youth are willing to work hard and have an ambition to achieve something. Their only feeling is that they do not have proper men to guide them in a better way.
