GUIDELINES
The Romanian Academy - Timisoara Branch, "Victor Slavescu" Monetary and Financial Research Centre - Bucharest, "Jean Monnet" European Centre of Excellence, within the West University of Timisoara, The School of High Comparative European Studies (SISEC) and the National Bank of Romania - Timis Branch, have the pleasure to invite you to the International Colloquium ROMANIA AND THE EUROPEAN UNION IN 2007, which will be held in Timisoara on 6th of May, 2005.

The School of High Comparative European Studies (SISEC), within the West University of Timisoara (UVT), traditionally celebrates each year the Europes Day 9th of May.

This year, 2005, SISEC is proud to act together with all those who feel and think as Europeans, celebrating Europe.
The year 2005 is very important for Romania and for the European Union. The year 2005 is very important for SISEC the first academic programme on High European Studies in Romania.

On 9th of May, 1950, in a speech inspired by Mr. Jean Monnet, the founder of European construction process, the French minister of external affairs, Mr. Robert Schuman, launched his famous Declaration on proposing the establishing of the first European Community. The 9th May was called as the Day of Europe. 55 years ago, in November 1950, the Human Rights and Fundamental Rights Conventions were signed in Rome, Italy. 55 years after the starting of the building of Europe process, the European Union is prepared to welcome the accession of Romania as member of the European family: during the Luxembourg Presidency of the European Union, the signing of the Treaty of Accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU is scheduled for 25th of April, in Luxembourg. During 2005, all member states of the EU organise referenda to ratify the European Constitution, in order for it to enter into force in 2006. One year ago, on 1st of May 2004, the biggest ever enlargement took place, with 10 new countries joining (most of them Central and Eastern European countries). Following the signing of the
Accession Treaty and fulfilling of all the requirements, Bulgaria and Romania will be part of the sixth wave of accession, joining the European Union on 1st of January, 2007. The result: a large European family, united in diversity; an area of freedom, security and justice for all.

The School of High Comparative European Studies (SISEC) was established in 1995 within the West University of Timisoara, as the first ever academic post-graduate programme on High European Studies in Romania. In 2001, the West University of Timisoara (UVT) was granted the Jean Monnet European Economy Chair, in recognition of the high standards of European studies in Timisoara. Starting with 2003, our university was granted the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence, the first one ever in Romania. In the second semester of the year 2005, the Timisoara academic life will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the School of High Comparative European Studies (SISEC).
Romania wil certainly be part of the European Union.
It is up to us to succeed!
