Q&A With Christopher Pettiet

[This interview was done the summer after Christopher Pettiet -- who plays Jesse on The Young Riders -- starred with Cristina Applegate in Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead and Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze in Point Break. Chris was 15 and half. His birthday is February 12, 1976.]

16: Why don't you start by telling us what it was like on the set of Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead.

CHRISTOPHER: Well, it was a lot of fun! It was shot the summer before last in San Canyon, which is outside of Los Angeles. It was so hot, like 108 degrees! To stay cool, we had squirt gun fights all the time!

16: 108... sounds pretty brutal! No doubt you were able to keep cooler in the next movie you did, Point Break.

CHRISTOPHER: That's right, because I played a surfer! I played a little kid who works in a thrift shop. It was a small part but I enjoyed it because I love to surf, too. I used to surf every day but since I've been to Hawaii a couple of times, it really gets you spoiled.

16: Have you ever wiped out when you were surfing?

CHRISTOPHER: I had a major wipeout in Hawaii. The waves are a lot bigger and a lot more powerful. I hit the ocean floor so hard, my back got all cut up. I was a little shaken up, to say the least, but I went back to it the next day.

16: So, it's like riding a bicycle, where if you fall of you have to get right back on?

CHRISTOPHER: Sort of.

16: What else do you like to do in your spare time?

CHRISTOPHER: I got out with my friends. I love to go out dancing. I especially like to dance to house music and funk. I love house because it's not really competitive, everybody just has a good time. With hip hop, everybody's trying to outdo each other.
