I am not running for the school board to represent the Orange County School Board, I am running as a representative of you, the public.  There are plenty of people employed by the school board to represent them; your only representative is your elected school board representative.  One wants to take pride in their schools, but our first concern as parents are our children, not pride in our school system.  Too often, too many of us have been let down by that system.  I am an EDUCATOR.  I understand how learning takes place from K – 14.  I have been a certified Elementary School Teacher since 1972.  Presently I am a Professor teaching at Valencia Community College.  My Master’s degree is in English Literature.  I see what is coming out of our public school system and how many—between 75% to 80%,-- of those who do go on to college need to take remediation classes to make up for what they missed in our high schools.

Teachers, students and parents are being blamed for the problems in our schools.  Who blames the administration?  Who stands up for the people and even looks at the administration in this county?  I think it is time to put someone on the school board who knows how children learn and what is needed to improve our education.

Accountability and honesty does need to happen, but it needs to start at the top first.
