EDUCATION

·        BS in Education at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, 1972. I have had continual certification in Florida to the present.  I have a minor in art as well.

·        MA in Literature at UCF, Orlando, Fl, 2008.

 

OCCUPATION

·        Presently a Professor at Valencia Community College teaching English Composition.

 

PERSONAL

·        Married for 31 years to Craig Bell, with four children, all grown.

 

EXPERIENCE

·        I am an EDUCATOR.  I understand how learning takes place from K – 14.  I taught in Palm Beach county public schools and received tenure.  I see what is coming out of our public school system and how many—between 75% to 80%,-- of those who do go on to Valencia CC need to take remediation classes to make up for what they missed in our high schools.  We need someone on the board who actually knows how children learn the basics of reading, writing and math.  I am not another attorney working in land development as is Mr. Roeder.

·        I am HONEST, I do not believe in lying, and I really am tired of all the dissembling coming from our school board and their administrators. 

·        Also, I have been chairman and/or a board member of various organizations:

o   School Advisory Chairman at West Orange HS for three years.

o   School Advisory Chairman at Riverland Elem. School for two years.

o   President of CFRTL for two years, 1000 members.

o   President of BRTL for two years, 2000 members.

o   President and founder of Vision for Below Educational Level Learners Inc.- organized to address the profound need for vision testing for reading in Orange County Schools.

o   Board Member of AMAIQ chapter in Orange County – A Board to study and educate about the effects of indoor air quality on people, how to remediate such buildings and avoid the “sick” building development.  Most of the schools we have been tearing down have been because of lack of proper maintenance and because they were sick buildings.

o   Executive Board member of OCREC.

o   Member of teenage pregnancy task force

o   Home School evaluator for 15 years.

o   Chairman of the Employment committee for our area church of over a thousand members for four years.
