Storm-Crow played good music in the Mon Valley Area

Storm-Crow was a band directed and drummed by Vince Schaefer, and Pete Harris, during a summer while teaching the drum-line at California High School.. Actually I think it was our fourth or fifth summer of teaching at Cal.. Jon Pike (link to his site below) who I played with in Neon Craze, played guitar, Pat Moore played bass, and Jim Black played keyboard and some guitar. Jim also handled most of the singing, while providing lush keyboard sounds to pad the band. The tunes we chose were based on the abilities of our guitar player, so we were heavy on guitar-based artists like: Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, or Bon Jovi. Our mix encompassed a wide variety of music, and some of the best tunes were classic rock, especially Allman Brothers, or Cream.

Pete's and my playing complimented each other quite well in this situation, enhanced by our seasons together teaching the drum-line at Cal High. We sort of took turns with the main music lines and did our best to make a full drum ensemble sound. It wasn't hard because by this time we were tuned into many common general ideas and concepts of drumming, and knew how to apply them to the genres and styles of music we played. Taste and common sense ruled in our little drum section, as we enhanced music with percussive embellishments and powerful drum set lines. I played my black Rogers 8 ply Maple kit with Hydraulic Heads, and Pete played his matching Ludwig kit. I also was using the DrumKAT, by Alternate Mode to play accessory percussion parts, and triggering my acoustic drums with little samples from my Roland R-8. We both used all Zildjian Cymbals.

Stormcrows best gig had to be the outdoor concert in Bentleyville, in October, out on the middle of a football field. It was very cold, we went on at eight o'clock, couldn't even hear ourselves play out in the middle of that field. The small but enthusiastic crowd loved us so much that the sponsors paid us an extra 40% of our predetermined price. It made playing in the cold seem worth the while! Sadly, we broke up after a member got a job in another state.
