Greetings
In Polish, you can welcome and say goodbye in several ways, listed below. I have decided to include less common ways as well, in case you come across them. Feel free to learn it at your own pace, you don’t need to know about words such as “bywaj” yet!
Cześć – Hello
Dzień dobry – Good morning
Witam – Welcome (used less frequently than the above)
Dobry wieczór – Good evening
Dobranoc – Goodnight
Bywaj – Farewell (very rare; see Note 1)
Powodzenia – Good luck
Do widzenia – Goodbye (see Note 2)
Do zobaczenia – Goodbye (see Note 3)
Do następnego razu – Until next time
Pa – Informal version of “goodbye”. (see Note 4)
Na razie – Informal version of “goodbye”, used largely by youth and young adults.
Nara – A shortened, colloquial form of “na razie”.
Notes :
1) The word “bywaj” is very rarely come across, even in formal settings. I, personally, have only ever seen it in fantasy media such as The Witcher 3, since the word is quite archaic.
2) The word “do widzenia” literally translates to “until we see each other again”.
3) “Do zobaczenia” has the exact same meaning as “do widzenia”, and differs only in using a synonym of “widzenia” (“seeing”). Both are frequently used.
4) Only used between friends or family. Can also be said as “pa pa”, as in “bye bye”.
