Negative Form

Like in English, Polish has both negative forms and opposite words. For example, one could say the "opposite" of "good" was "bad", or they could say "not good". "Bad" is an example of a word of opposite meaning, whereas "not good" is the negative form. To say something in negative form in Polish, we add "nie" ("no") before our word. So "ładne" ("pretty") would become "nieładne".

Depending on how you are using the negative form of the word, it could affect whether the "nie" is written with the word or separately. The usual consensus is that sentences starting with a negative form are pieced together, whilst the general use of the negative is written separately.
