There are good bots that help computers run a variety of helpful tasks for example they scan the web to assemble data for search engines like GOOGLE.
Bots allows a hacker to sneak into a computer and control it without the owner's knowledge or authorization.
A botnet is like a spider in its web, the person who controls many Bot-infested computers can link them together into a network known as a botnet.
Bots mostly get in through holes in ones security programs because they have not been patched yet. Meaning the program has not been updated.
Bots are used to deliver huge amounts of spam email.
They are harder to detect than viruses and worms mainly because they are so hard to detect.
