Comparison : Messaging services
To clear differences in "hitokoto" for other messaging services, we would like to try comparing from some viewpoints.
Before comparison, we collect services lightly. - Phone -- Skype. Of course, "phones" and cell phones, too. -- Outlook, Thunderbird like a client application and Gmail, Yahoo mail, Hotmail like a web mail. - Blog -- It has a comment field. - Micro blog - Guestbook - IM (Instance Messenger) -- MSN Messenger, ICQ, IP Messenger ** Preparation Cost to start a service. - More -- Phone - Less : free, but you need a few times to install it or make account. -- IM -- Micro blog - (Almost) Nothing -- hitokoto --- To receiptor : they set up access logs or log analyzer for original purpose, not for messaging service. --- To sender : they need to regist a bookmarklet. - Nothing -- Blog -- Guestbook ** Messaging Who can you send a message to? - Limited : send to selected person only -- Phone -- IM -- hitokoto - Unlimited : to everyone -- Blog : sender sends a comment to author, but everyone can read it. -- Micro blog -- Guestbook Is there a possibility of rejection message? - Phone -- There is a arrival denial service. -- There is a possibility of removal by the spam filter. - IM -- None..? - Blog -- No comment field by setting. - Micro blog -- Non notification on default. - Guestbook - hitokoto -- None. But we will add service to reject in future. And number of person who send a message in the same time. - One to one (basically) -- Phone -- Email : one to many, possible -- IM : grouping, possible -- Blog -- hitokoto - One to many -- Micro blog - Many to many -- Guestbook ** Strength of communication It means that you are forced response... - Forced -- Phone -- IM - Unforced -- Blog -- Guestbook - No need -- Micro blog -- hitokoto and means continuation. - Continuative -- Phone -- IM - Intermediate -- Blog -- Guestbook - Single -- Micro blog -- hitokoto You can't reply by "hitokoto"(refer to the link below) and can't read a comment by other person. So it is a lighter communication tool than twitter. http://www.w3jct.net/hitokoto/users.gsp#explanation * Conclusion These comparison makes clear the peculiarity of "hitokoto" that you can send a message to others surely and that's all. We emphasize that you shold choise these services by their strengths and weaknesses, not superiority. 2008-03-15 20:30:56 GMT
