These are pictures of me and my
T340
formula
ford.
A formula ford is an open wheeled road racing machine, weighing 1100 lbs
including fuel and driver. Powered by the famous 1600 cc Ford "kent" engine,
these cars can hit speeds in excess of 140 mph. under the right conditions.
The class first appeared in England in the early 1960s. Currently, my car
is set up for competition in CLUB FORD in the San Francisco region of the
Sports Car Club of America.( SCCA ). This class can be very competitive,
with grids full of cars all with the same power, so wheel to wheel racing
is the name of the game. No one hands you a trophy for just showing up!
You earn it.
I quit racing 1989 and the car just sat until 1999. I finally
returned to racing by attending a SCCA driver's school, getting my competition
license reinstated, and have thus far managed a couple of second place
finishes in the four races I have competed in this year.
( Just as a note, I didn't rebuild the engine when I brought the car
out of moth balls. It is the same as it was when I parked it in 1989!)
Special thanks to Mr.
Larry Richards for all his help with bringing the car back to life.
Larry builds and races Dwarf Cars. He has his own webpage

Pictures from my "Return to Racing" 1999
Here I am, 50 years old and still playing with race
cars.
I managed to break the nose in my 1999 driver's school.
This is the first nose I ever broke in ten years of racing.
( Breaking the nose was not a big deal, what was a
big deal was ruining
the LOLA decal as they are almost impossible to find
now. )
"Honest, the mountain at Thunderhill just jumped out in front of me!"
