2008 Earthquake

On April 18th, 2008 a magnitude 5.2 earthquake erupted from the farm land 5 miles North East of the Village of Bellmont in Wabash County, IL and was felt across the midwest.  The quake came out of the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone. It was listed as a VII on the Earthquake Intensity Scale. Hundreds of homes and businesses suffered masonry damage or water line breaks. Only minor cuts and bruises were reported. A week after the main earthquake, the USGS recorded a total of 26 aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 1.0 to 4.6. The biggest aftershock occurred at 10:14am CDT on April 18; it was a magnitude 4.6.
