Walkalong Bird
A Web Site to investigate the feasibility of mounting birds which have died for gliding flight. Such a mount would draw attention to the species of bird and could show how a real bird flies in the soaring mode.
This Owl wing weighs 22.2 grams. The wing loading is calculated from the wing area and the weight.
The best birds would probably include the soaring ones with the slowest stall speed. Vultures, Buzzards and Condors rely heavily on soaring and probably have wings with the smallest wing loading. At right is a Turkey Vulture.
