Allison Shaw
Born in England in 1941, Allison Shaw trained as a nursing sister and worked and travelled in Europe, Canada and the U.S.A before arriving in Australia in 1968.
She always took her oils and brushes on her travels and endless subjects demanded to be painted. The woods and fields of her childhood gave way to castles on the Rhine and the majesty of the Canadian Rockies - and finally the Australian bush and wide open spaces
Over the years painting became more and more important in her life and since 1970 she has been painting full time.
With her husband, artist * Geoff McKenzie, she has undertaken many painting tours to various parts of Australia and to England and Europe. At one time they had their studio on Magnetic Island, North Queensland and have since operated their own studio galleries at Guildford and Anglesea in Victoria and Burleigh Heads, Miami, Woombye and Montville in Queensland. They are now based on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and continue their travels every year to find new subject matter and inspiration.
Allison has always been inspired by the gentler side of the Australian landscape and her unique talent lies in capturing the essence and mystery of the bush on a misty morning or the shimmering reflections in a hidden waterhole. Her soft, delicate oils have a universal appeal, resulting in many successful exhibitions in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. More recently she has ventured further into the outback as well as to the Kimberley and Top End and been captivated by the drama and incredibly rich colours of these remote areas. This has resulted in a whole new series of vibrant and evocative paintings. A love of snorkelling and diving also brought forth a colourful Great Barrier Reef - Coral Gardens series.
Her works may be found in collections throughout Australia and New Zealand as well as U.S.A., Canada, U.K, Europe, Japan and Hong Kong.
