Taiwanese boyband Energy: We'll remain as five
By Mai Kay Seow, ShowbizOnline

Energy became a part of history yesterday, after two members of the group, Ah Di and Shuwei opted for solo careers three months ago. Faced with the dilemma of continuing as a duo or to go their own ways, Milk and Kunda resorted to a fans voting poll set up by Universal Music.

The result was shocking. Fans who had once sworn to support Energy '4ever' proved to be not faithful enough.

Yesterday, a press conference where all four members had attended was held regarding the official breakup of Energy. It was rumoured that Toro, another ex-member who left the quintet (Energy started out as a five-man group) in 2003, was present at the conference. However his manager has since dismissed the claims.

"Toro is in China filming the 8th sequel for Snow Angel, how can he possibly be at the press conference? Besides, this is not the right situation for him to show up," Jason Huang said.

During the press conference, leader Milk announced tearfully that 'Energy will always remain as five people', much to the amusement of some fans seated behind. When questioned about their cackles of glee, the fans simply replied, "We've heard this for three years already."

To Milk's speech, Shuwei nodded solemnly and cut Milk's words, just like what he had been doing over the last four years.

"No matter what happens, our dreams and hopes will remain the same, just like the summer of 2002."

Another fan who was greatly tickled by Shuwei's declaration was promptly whisked off by the security. During her struggle she was heard saying, "Dreams? Do you all even know what are dreams?" as she continued her way out of the door.

After a group singing session of 'Auld Lang Syne', the quartet posed together to cut the traditional 'breakup cake', also known as jie san gao in Chinese. The tradition of cake cutting was started when boybands split up without the slightest sign of sadness, but with joy and celebration.

The photo-taking session was disrupted when Ah Di's eight-month old daughter started crying in his arms.

"I think she's overwhelmed by the camera flashes," he fumed. He then ordered the photographers to disable their cameras' flash functions.

On a happier note, Ah Di started to smile for the first time in four years, and this was not without reason.

"I bought Mao Mei (his daughter's nickname) a pair of limited edition Energy mittens, she loves it so much!" he chuckled, tickling his daugher under her chin.

Kunda, who had been silent all the while since the start of the press conference, only showed his approval to Milk's speech by nodding and occasionally frowning at laughing fans at the back.

ShowbizOnline's reporter, Mai Kay Seow, questioned Kunda about his future career, to which he gave a polite smile and walked away mumbling under his breath, oblivious to the posed question.

There were reports of Kunda being referred to psychaitrists when he failed to get his degree for Banking and Finance at Tamkang University. His distraughtness was noted by viewers of E-News, when he started to laugh uncontrollably at a particular sentence said by Shuwei.

"Tell me, does the line 'let's go for a commercial break' contain an inside joke or something?" one viewer called in to complain.

"Kunda was still laughing when the commercials ended," another fan wrote in an email.

The chief executive of Universal Music (Taiwan) announced that unsold CDs, VCDs and DVDs could still be purchased at all major record stores. Prices, however, were jacked up, not unlike the quick cash earning method of other record companies.

"No, we're different," Mr Fan claimed. "The items come with a farewell gift which is a box of Energy brand matchsticks and a mini-sized tin of Energy brand kereosene.

When asked about the use of the merchandise, Mr Fan promptly replied with a smile, "The fans can do anything with them ."
