    Language true sweet
In journeys, in climbs unbroken
Mirror of joy or pain
For ’tis the voice of our souls

—Norberto Romualdez, my free translation from
                    the Ambahan Han Sanghiran (San
                    Binisaya)
, 1958

        One’s-self I sing, time fashions:
(TIME) International Person, INTRA
Personal reflection of a larger PeRsOnA
By my own disinformations.

A desiring actor—effect/cause of the movies,
Next thing you know I’m Fidel Castro,
James Dean and R. Valentino
By my own transformations. Hey

Transfigurations wanted according to plans
O’ pleasin’ a larger . . . public, and pleasing:
One’s modesties—depersonalizing, uh,
"Context-values" by our own surveying

The majority’s meaning when we say A
Means this. The pervert’s looking also
Getting as valid in the multivalence
Of the tune . . . of our own making. Yet

We shall be of local languages of our
Own bordering musIcs, verily distinct,
Not necessarily better but ours; at least
That
gives us our own delusions back,

Of knowing something had been ours
And not all was derived from something
Without, instead o’ within, at least that
Gives us our own linguistic diversion back.

Of course the words will still be . . . not just
Distant music, unless we gather the words
In worlds (not the ABC of reading)
Of our own intimate dreaming

To hear more of the silence w/o deafness,
The not just perfected vision, the not just
Nationalism, at best—this time—we'd have
More tension, knowledges unprovincial

For earth peoples, more mythological
Moods—by earthlings’ own devisings!
(We can always get back to rusty roots,
Every time we wondrously fruit)
