HUASCAR'S GUNS

Three pictures of Huascar's guns. The first two photographs show the two eight-inch Elswick guns (formerly were two ten-inch Armstrong guns) over the revolving turret, called “Coles turret” in honor of its designer, British captain Cowper Coles. The turret was operated manually and could give a 360-degree turn in 15 minutes. It was protected with heavy armor. After her capture by the Chileans, they adapted a steam system that made the rotation faster and smoother. At the bottom of the page, a 44 caliber Gatling gun wih multiple barrels.
