When cooking, if you burn yourself, dab with vanilla.

When frying fish, do not put salt in the butter, but sprinkle on after cooking, as
salt prevents the batter going crisp.

If you find you have run out of icing sugar, boil 1 cup of white sugar and quarter
cup of milk for 5 minutes. Take off heat and stir until it thickens, then pour
    over cake.

When removing cakes or sponges from the oven when baked, always leave in
the tin about 5 minutes to cool. The cake or sponge will then come away quite
    clean, with edges intact.

Patty Paper hints: When baking small cakes in paper patties, place them on
oven slides so that they do not touch. They will then rise to a point and not run
    over the edges.

When using margarine for shortening in a recipe, add 1 tspn glycerine to each
quarter pound margarine used. The cake will be much more moist.

Mock Maple Syrup to serve with pancakes: Equal quantities of golden syrup,
honey and water. Boil to dissolve and add little vanilla and cinnamon.

When cooking cauliflower, add a little milk to keep cauli nice and white.

Broad Beans will not go black and will improve in flavour if a small bunch of
parsley is added to the cooking water.
