First Congregational Church of Claridon
United Church of Christ

Welcome to Claridon: During the summer months, as is often the case in many congregations, Claridon takes time to pause, reflect and gear-up for another year. In the summer, the choir and Sunday school take a sabbatical and Worship Time is an hour earlier - Sunday, 10:00am (June 18 to September 3). However, there are many events and ministry opportunities that are valued within the church community. See the Short-Term Calendar (right side-bar) and, the ONLINE CALENDAR for upcoming events in the life of the church. Our newly called pastor is the Rev. Pam Easterday, who along with her family has recently settled into a new home in Chardon. We are excited with the new promise and vigor her leadership will bring to our congregation. The Claridon building is Barrier Free. The elevator and restrooms are wheelchair accessible and we provide large-print bulletins and hymnals for the worship service if requested.
Website Resources: The Claridon website [ claridonucc.org ] is under construction (best resolves in an 800X600 screen rez). And, as more information is compiled about the church and ministries it could very well roll over to Another Configuration. In the meantime, there are some links that you might find valuable. The church newsletter, " The Carillon," (PDF file) is available so you may read online or download to your desktop. So, print/read at your leisure. In fact, if you have the FREE Adobe Reader7, you use the read-to-speak engine and listen to the PDF's in audio. Wonderful option if you have a vision disability. All files are archived. See the Claridon Downloads (top links - note this area is currently password protected although in the short future, I will escape archived files from the protected group) or, find the most recent files below.

A Little History: Claridon has a long history, established in 1827. In those days, travel was difficult from their homes in Huntsburg to the established Congregational church in Burton. And, congregants found it especially difficult traveling in the winter. So, with the home church blessing, Huntsburg residents began a new Huntsburg fellowship first meeting in members homes and later building a permanent sanctuary. In 1957, Claridon affiliated with the newly formed denomination, the United Church of Christ, which was formed in a merger of the Congregational, Christian and Reformed traditions.
Vision and Mission: In 2005-2006, our congregation participated in a visioning experience through workshops by Project 6:15, helping to discern our faith future here at Claridon. Our Vision Statement: Loving the Lord through service and praise. Committing our lives to Christ. Making Him known. Our Mission Statement: We are called by Jesus Christ to glorify God through Worship and praise, Christian education, Small group ministries, Prayer and devotional life and Local and global service. Both of these statements allow us to focus our direction as to listening to God's call for Claridon and how we respond to the needs of the congregation and the wider community.
