Wimbledon & District Motorcycle Club

  • The Club Today: The WDMCC is a small club based in South London. We have about 30 active members united by their common interest in motorcycles. The club meets every Friday night at The Kings Head pub next to the bus garage near Colliers Wood underground station. We can normally be found in the large room at the rear of the pub. Just to give you an idea of the membership and our bikes, here are a few of the 'characters':

'Parky' our Chairman has a small stable of machines including a mid 50s Triumph Speed Twin, a modern 'Hinckley' Triumph Tiger, and trailie BMW boxer that last saw major service on a round the world trip.

'Fiver' (He can usually buy a drink for himself and 2 others providing that one of the others is having a half). 'Fiver' is Social Secretary cum editor of the newsletter. He rides a Suzuki 650 V twin and a Royal Enfield Meteor.

Richard. Our treasurer has a very nice Norton Commando with a strange noise that doesn't seem to interfere with its performance. Being a banker he also has a nice new Jag, but no-one is allowed in that.

'Float', a long serving member has a big Honda trailie thing that he would like to sell if he could. He also has a nice Norton Commando. When not riding his bike he pretends to be a member of the politburo in his huge Czech Tatra car.

'PCDC', another long serving member has now acquired a beautiful girlfriend and maybe rechristened 'PCAC'. He rides the smartest Triumph Speed Triple in London, bedecked with every conceivable extra.

'Plumber John', rides a Honda Bros with a very small fuel tank. He can usually be identified by the fact that he wears his 'incontinents' all the year round and usually has a can of petrol strapped to the back of the bike.

'Nkerr' has a truly exotic collection funded by his huge income as a leading light in the IT industry. Most notable is the TRITON. This machine has been tuned to the point where it can see of a Fireblade for about 30 seconds before it blows up...yet again. However, age is taking its toll and he can usually be seen nowadays pootling about on a new Hinckley Bonnie.

  • What do we do? Apart from the weekly club night at the Kings Head we organise a series of events through the year. These include:

Track days: Normally organised by 'Nkerr' for those with TT dreams.

Alcofrolics to France: Normally organised by 'Money' who speaks excellent French and has fine gastronomic sensibilities.

Club Holiday: A huge rented house for a week somewhere in the summer.

AVAC trip to the Loire valley. An annual get together with French friends who belong to an historic vehicle club (We take all our old tat to show off, Speed twins, Matchless G9s, Nortons etc)

Pub runs; Bar-b-ques; Christmas dinner; Longer European jaunts for the adventurous,

  • The Club Project: The club is very long established having come into existence, we believe, soon after the 1st World War. We are currently engaged on restoring the club relic which is a BSA 'roundtank' that was used in the 1920s to train new members how to ride a bike. Plumber John is in charge of restoration and Richard sometimes gives him some money out of club funds.

  • New Members:  Are very welcome. We are a very mixed and friendly bunch and welcome new members of any age, sex, colour, creed or orientation as long as you enjoy bikes. Come along one Friday night and introduce yourself, or email [email protected]
