French Horn Resource Page is the creation of one of our recent community leader graduates, Paul Huang. Paul is also our newest contributor to Vienna Online and came up with his own topic to write about in "Instrumentally Speaking." Billing himself as an interested amateur, his knowledge about instruments is nonetheless something that we all can share, and as time goes on more and more aspects of the instruments in the orchestra will come to light. As for the French horn, look no further than Paul's site for excellent player's information.

Brass Crest is the unofficial site of brass bands, and in particular Salvation Army Bands. One of the neatest sites I've seen in a long time, Robert Schramm, its creator, has succeeded in gathering first-rate source material and presenting it in his own well written and easy-to-understand style. Very few sites do it better,

Exeter Children's Orchestra - Besides lots of great personal webpages, we also have several youth orchestras represented by our leaders. Exeter's is a well-kept page, from a London-based VCL. It features a history of the orchestra, a program of events (usually updated), interesting European and Who's Who links, a raison d'etre for musical education, photos of the group's practices and performances, and information about their schedules -- in short everything a well-made page about an entity should have.

Klassiks' Classics - Associate Editor Keith's site is one of several being totally revamped now that the pages are more prominent. But you'll still find plenty to keep you interested, as well as a lot of ideas for your own page.

Philip Web Lyric Tenor: Philip Webb is a singer whose schedule, repertoire, and career information can be found in GeoCities. A resident of the Chicago suburbs, Webb created the site to keep his friends and other professionals aware of his progress, and he has succeeded admirably.

Mozart's Own Website - This site, written as though by the composer himself, presents a gallery of images and text illustrating the life and acqaintances of the composer. Also included are various quotations about Mozart, a calendar of major events in his life, and a message board.

Mozart's World - is the first non-GeoCities site to be awarded the "Virtual Vienna Award." It contains, in the words of its owner, "A Mozart Biography, picture gallery, fan club, fan section, links, analysis of the D minor Piano Concerto, computer software about Mozart, fan contributions and MUCH more - designed for all Mozart lovers!" I found the site to be well organized, easy to navigate, and full of interest.

Salzburger Mozart-Solisten! -The bassoon is a wonderful but exceedingly difficult instrument to play well, and the fact that Lynn Gaubatz played and taught at the Mozarteum speaks highly for her abilities.

Flamenco Guitar - This site was a pleasant surprise as I was scanning a block of homesteads one evening. Designed for the classical guitarist, beginner or advanced, it features classical songs in "tablature" format, a type of music notation designed especially for the guitar and one that is much easier to read and learn than standard sheet music (unless you already know sheet music).

Flute, Piano, and Classical Music Page - By a 1999 leader/teacher, this site presents a fascinating discourse on musical timelines, Guillaume Dufay, as well as popular music, especially of the Canadian variety.

The Grissom High School Clarinets - have an interesting site. They have pictures of more different sizes of clarinets than I realized even existed.

A well done page focusing on the world of Soviet ballet. It also has avenues to Russian opera, orchestras, and music as seen through the eyes of conductor and pianist Vladimir Moiseyev, the site's creator and programmer. This extremely popular stopping point on the Internet is a treasure trove of information on Russian ballet, including ballet companies, great names in Russian ballet, soloists, choreographers, scenography, ballet education, and even links to Ballet magazine. One of the more ambitious links is the Ballet events in Moscow, the hometown of Mr. Moiseyev. If you are interested in ballet, this a must-see site for you.

Nancy's Musical Meanderings is a site with many unique midis and lots of information about weird instruments, including the Theremin synthesiser, a guitar-based sound imager (my own terminology). Nancy Bower, the site's camera-shy webmistress, says she enjoys collecting information about the many one-of-a-kind and other odd instruments she features, and even plans on someday building her own "gourdolin."

Collectors' Guide to Opera Recordings and Videos
Liz and Geoffrey Riggs pool their efforts and knowledge to put together a collection of opera video and recording critiques. "My wife, Liz, is the techie in the household, and she has done the lion's share of the design and organization for our site," points out Geoffrey, who is the content provider for the well-done site.

Fryderyk's Studio is the first site I've seen that not only features western classical music, but also Chinese classical music. It includes some excellent midis and many great jpegs and gifs of orchestras and instruments.

Dave's Christmas Site (Strasse 2510) -- While surfing around looking for some Christmas music to offer in the zine, I found David A. Sucianto's site and knew I'd found a gold mine of Christmas nuggets. A resident of Bogor in Indonesia, David -- or Jax, as he is known to friends -- each year manages to improve his Christmas offerings of midis he has collected from around the Internet, some of which he augments with "a little improvisation here and there to make them ... 'live' for me."

Jose van Dam
Teresa Michalowski features a great singer in her web page devoted to Jose Van Dam. "I feel that he is not well advertised, and I wanted more people to become aware about him," she explained. "He is what my father would call a 'singer's singer,' someone who is interested more in the actual art and music than in the money or fame.
