The Belties have a double coat which keeps them warm in winter, also it protects them in summer. As we have had 2 house cows it was interesting to go out on the coldest night of winter to find that you could keep quite warm with the house cows, but the Belties did not share their heat with anyone but themselves. Needless to say we became quite cold cuddling the Belties so decided that they were converting the winter feed better than the fine coated cattle.

Another fantastic point is that they work the steep rocky outcrops on our property. I must say at this point that we were overjoyed when they lead the other cattle up into the hills for the first time.
Another point of interest that no one mentions in the underlined links that I have provided is that, Buffalo flies only tend to be able to get around the eye's, though they get to the coat they have great difficulty navigating their way through the thick under coat.
Which tends to get the flies caught up and when sprayed instead of escaping they get destroyed, and then can be easily combed out of the coat.

This we find worth it's weight in gold as re-infestation takes a great deal longer to occur.
Note this was bought to our attention this year as the Buffalo flies stayed with us until late May, 2 months later than usual even though we had very heavy early frosts.

October 2006 was well below average and November has seen above average so far really good rain and the herd here looking forward to a prospress spring. Through the drought these little cattle maintained their weight well considering the dreadful conditions. Wee Belties is now offering 3 full blood bulls for sale and there are also some little Belted cross bulls prices start at $750 These little bulls are all miniature black belted.

We found that one of our major concerns were the white beltes and the skin pigmentation, sun burn, skin cancer. These concerns have been laid to rest now as we found that the pigment of the Belties skin appears to be similar to the difference between English and other European countries, white or olive complexions. The Belties have the olive rather than the Hereford or Friesian white, Thus we have found that sun burn is not such a issues for us now.
Summing up the Belties they are very quiet, Calmness is a major when you are dealing with miniatures.  You do not need large farms to enjoy these little cattle.

They are very good lawn mowers, edge trimmers and even replace the whipper snipper, with out needing constant repair, very economical to run and lots less noise. " NO EAR MUFFS NECESSARY".
