LEGACY PROJECT

Project Description

For my Legacy Project, I chose to build an adjustable pig loading ramp with my Agricultural Metal Fabrication class. Before, students and teachers loaded pigs with either a crude makeshift ramp or without one at all. This ramp will be adjustable to any trailer height and has sides to prevent animals from falling off. This was a great project for this class, as two students did not have an individual project to work on when it came time. We planned it out during class and discussed various design features to include. Students developed scale drawings, a cut list, and bill of materials for the ramp. Then, when the steel arrived, construction began. This was a great project from design to finishing. Student learned first hand the importance of scale drawings in construction, along with the process of steel fabrication including cutting, welding, and finishing a steel project. This project will be used on campus in the hog barns and will make for easy loading and unloading of hogs for many years to come.
