Westward Expansion formed in late 1999 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The founding members -- M. Levi (guitar, vocals) and Brian Opalewski (bass) -- began performing the band's original music in locations around Ann Arbor, Michigan including:

Xhedos (Ferndale), EarthFest, University of Detroit, Pridefest (Milwaukee, Wisc.)

In the summer of 2001 a third member, Jessika Kitzman (cello) joined the group, adding incredible talent and depth to their already unique and ground-breaking sound.

Westward Expansion moved to Seattle in October 2002 and is now scheduling shows in the pacific northwest.  The band also finished recording their first full length album in September 2002.

Westward Expansion is:

M. Levi -- acoustic guitar, vocals

Jessika Kitzman -- electric cello

Brian Opalewski -- six-string bass

About the music

Westward Expansion creates a moving fusion of jazz and folk rock influenced by artists ranging from Dave Matthews Band to Tool and Ani DiFranco.
