History |
|
The Wharf Hotel once known as "The Sailors Return Inn" dates back more than 300 years, The 1851 census shows the licensee to be Benjamin Sneezeum, age 30 and his wife Mary Anne 36, and their children, Elizabeth 2 and son Benjamin junior 2 months. It was until fairly recently a rather difficult place to reach being the only surviving building in an otherwise derelict area by Grays riverside, however a new housing estate has been developed and the Wharf Hotel gives the area an olde worlde focal point.
