Worst Case Scenarios | |||||||||||
So what's the worst that could happen? Apparently that's also what the Pentagon would like to know. During the past year they reportedly paid $100,000.00 for a report on the worst case scenarios of global warming. I couldn't find the name of the authors but they were from the Global Buisness Network. Here are some interesting facts from that report. (Remeber this is not a prediction, its a worst case scenario!)
The Scenario: Global warming is approaching a threshold, that once passed by will mark a sudden cooling of Earth. This kind of event is believed to have happened 8,200 years ago and lasted for 100 years.
Predictions of events that will happen (quoted from the "worst case scenario" paper, taken from MSNBC): -By 2020 after a decade of cooling Europe's climate will become more like Siberias. -"Mega Droughts" hit southern China and northern Europe around 2010 and last 10 years. -In the United States, agricultural areas suffer for soil loss due to higher winds and drier climat, but country survives the economic disruption without catastropic losses. -Widespread famine in China triggers chaos and "a cold and hungry China peers jealously" at Russia's energy resources. In the 2020-2030 period, civil war and border wars break out in China. -"Disruption and conflict will be endemic feature of life." In a "world of warring states," more countries develope nuclear weapons including Japan, South Korea, Germany, Iran, and Egypt. |
