![]() TRIPLE TRIAD CARDS Final Fantasy VIII contains a mini-game embedded in the main game called Triple Triad. Throughout the world of Final Fantasy VIII you will find cards, and continue to amass a collection of these as you defeat monsters or win them from other players. Cards themselves become useful to your party because they can be modified into Items with the Card Mod ability. To initiate a card game simply walk up to an unsuspecting person and press the (Square) button. Some will play, some won't. In the beginning this game seems easy, but as rules are altered, abolished, or spread, it can become complicated. Pay attention to the rule before you agree to play someone, and be prepared with the appropriate strategy. On the cards themselves you will see a picture of a monster, a Boss Monster, a Guardian Force, or a character from Final Fantasy VIII. In the upper left hand corner will be a set of four numbers. These correspond to the four sides of the card. The higher the number is usually better for most rules. You will notice that many cards are strong (have high numbers) on only two sides and weak on the other two but this isn't always the case. Some cards will have an "Elemental" symbol (fire, ice, water, lightning, earth, poison, etc.) on them, and apply to the Elemental rule. Some cards play good in the corner. For instance you will notice once you get Sacred and Minotaur that they fit well into the upper right, and lower right corners respectively. I've noticed that is better to go second on the dice roll. Here's a big suggestion. SAVE YOUR GAME before playing with difficult card players, because if you lose, especially with the All trade rule in effect you will lose bigtime. Losing a great card isn't fun, so skunk the game and reset it and try again. Rare cards are difficult to find, but I will define where to look for these cards on this page later, so in the end you have the potential of collecting all the cards. Level 1: Monster Cards
Infrit is given to you when you defeat Infrit. The Level 10 Player Card, Quistis, can be obtained from one of the Trepie Groupies on Balamb Garden. Two hang out in the Cafeteria, and the other in Squall's classroom. Diablos is given to you when you defeat Diablos. Sacred is given to you when you defeat Brothers in the Tomb of the Unknown King. See Walkthrough for details. Minotaur is given to you when you defeat Brothers in the Tomb of the Unknown King. See Walkthrough for details. The Level 10, Player card, Seifer can be obtained from Headmaster Cid on Disc 1 and 2 at Balamb Garden. You can obtain the Quezacotl card from the Mayor of FH. All the Level 7 Boss cards can be obtained from Martine, the Headmaster of Galbadia Garden on Disc 2 in FH, to the right of the Mayor's House. I recommend using all Player and GF cards on him to clean sweep all the cards he confiscated from the students at Galbadia Garden. Obtain the, Level 8 MiniMog card from the student running around Balamb Garden. The Level 8 Angelo can be obtained from Watts on Disc 1 on the Forest Owl's Hideout or Disc 3 on the White Seed Ship. To get the Level 8 Shiva give the magazine, "Girl Next Door," that you found in in the reception area of Timber Maniacs on Disc 1, to Zone on the White SeeD ship on Disc 3. He will give you Shiva if you offer it for free to him. To get the Level 8 GF Card, Siren card you will have to go to the Pub in Dollet. Talk to the owner on the second floor and challenge him to a game. If you will you will be taken to a back room where you can play again and obtain Siren from him. To obtain the Level 9 GF Card Bahamut go to Underwater Research Center to the extreme southwest, and defeat Bahamut. You will obtain his card. The Level 9 GF Card Eden can be obtained after you defeat Ultima Weapon in the lower areas of the Deep Sea Reseach Center. The Level 10 Player card Ward can be won from Dr. Odine in Esthar. The Level 10 Player card Selphie can be won from Selphie's friend siting in front of the Gargoyle Statue in Trabia Garden. When I encountered her she was playing under the rules Random and Plus. I subsequently lost. Try to get these abolished if possible. The Level 10 Player Card Rinoa is in the possession of her father General Caraway. To get it you will have to lose Infrit to him. Martine seems to somehow get it back in FH. Zell's mom has the Level 10 Player Card, Zell. Win it from her. Edea has her own Level 10 Player Card on Disc 3 when you meet her. Apparently Laguna has Squall's Level 10 Player Card on Disc 3. You'll have to win it from him. More to Come... |
