FINAL FANTASY IX ANTICIPATION

Final Fantasy has been with us since the decade of the 1980's. We have seen this series of Role Playing Games, progress from the Nintendo, to the Super Nintendo, to the Sony Playstation. Final Fantasy has become the standard by which all RPG's are measured. It is a series of unique games that have captured the hearts of gamers for years. In 1997 Squaresoft showed the world a new age of RPG's with Final Fantasy VII, and game that heralded a well developed storyline and cast of characters as well as stunning computer generated full motion video and rendered spell effects/summons that captured the essense of the story and immersed the gamer into an experience unprecedented in the history of RPG's. The game managed to evoke an emotional nerve within anyone who played it. Final Fantasy VII was a departure from the more medieval themes of previous Final Fantasy games and in following similar suit Final Fantasy VIII continued to exemplify the attributes of a Science Fictional theme with a strong emphasis on telling a story of unlikely love rising above adversity. Final Fantasy IX is a game in retrograde, a return to the series roots of classical RPG themes: Wizards, Knights, Dragons, and Magic. I can say that I am very interested in seeing a game that uses those themes but has been touched by the masterwork of the New Squaresoft, a company that rose from humble beginnings to a giant in the industry it is today. Their treasured stories are by far works of art. Yoshitaka Amano returns to design a whole new set of provocative and diverse characters. I can say, that's it's just awesome to be a gamer in these times.

So what do you think? This is your chance to discuss anticipation related to Final Fantasy IX. From what you've heard of this game, do you think it will be as good as it's predecessors or will it simply be another blockbuster clone of the other two Playstation games. In retrospect of the series beginnings do you think it will revive that enchantment of the early games? What makes you most interested in playing this game? These are just a few questions you can ponder when responding to this section.

[email protected] Anticipates: The very first Final Fantasy game that I played was Final Fantasy VIII. When I played that game, I just got so involved. I thought that that had to be the BEST playstation game that had ever been made. I played it for weeks, loving it, but every moment, wishing that I was almost done. In a way, I didn't want the game to end, I guess. But in another way, I just couldn't wait. It was the same with Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I just got so captivated, that when it was time to finally conquer the game, I was close to tears because I started thinking about how much of my time I had put into it.

The world of Final Fantasys is beautifully written. Its a line that helps people to express feelings that they know they want to, yet never did because they didn't know how. It seems no matter what the graphics are like in any of the final fantasys, the player instantly loves the story. I thought, after purchasing Final Fantasy VII, I thought that I'd never get to like it, but when I got into it, I found that the story line was even BETTER then that of FF8.

I am just hoping that Final Fantasy 9 will draw us in as much as the others have. Although I know it will, I cant help hoping.

Keep up the great work, VGX!

[email protected] Anticipates: i have played a few Final Fantrasy games, (Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantsy VII, Final Fantasy VIII). i must admit that before meeting the friends i have now i never would have known what an RPG was. but the Final Fantasy series was the first.

All of the games captivated me and pushed me. i fel in love with going any where i desiered to at any time. i have found, in my opinion, the 2 best ones in the series. FFVI, and FFVII. Kefka and Sephiroth were the coolest villians in those games.

I was somewhat dissapointed in FFVII when you started out at level 5 with 300 HP instead Level 1 with 40 HP.

But FFIX will captivate me and bring me to a world of mystery and wonder as it did in the past. Now if only the developers could make the game complete by the release date. Besides what other RPG can do this better than Final Fanatsy?? Not many if any.

Madcow Anticipates: Well, to tell you the truth VGX I'm having mixed feelings about Final Fantasy 9. Square is, in my opinion one of the top three developement houses in the world. (If you're wondering, the other two are Rare and EAD) So Naturally ANY new game from them gets me very excited. A new Final Fantasy game gets me even more excited still. By going by Square's reputation for making RPG's alone, virtually every gamer should be on the seat of their pants looking forward to this game.

There's more to it than that though. I for one didn't really like Final Fantasy 8. And I know I'm not alone. LOT'S of gamers were disappointed with the game. That, coupled with the fact that a ton of other companies have come out with very good RPG's lately has made me anticipate FF9 a little less.

So, I'd have to say I'm somewhere in the middle. I'll try to get the game as soon as it comes out, but I'm not gonna preorder it or anything like that. I could stand waiting a week or two.

David Getsfrid Anticipates: I personally cannot wait for another FF. 7 and 8 were stunning, but since 6 and 7 I have been wanting more medievel style. Final Fantasy's roots are in the medieval style and really need to go back to it with the new abilitys they have to make games better aesthetically.

Before I finish I just have to add in that as a composer of music myself, I think that Nobuo Uematsu does a damn good job in FF. His job is a helluva lot harder than many people think.

[email protected] Anticipates: Well Breath of Fire was the start of RPG world to me. Then came Breath of Fire III. It showed me alot. Then Final Fantasy 7 come to me. It was beyond the emotions I had for BOF and BOF 3. Soon Final Fantasy 8 came by and it showed that emotions and feelings were added. But it wasn't a FF7. Soon after I completed FF8, rumors flew through the internet about FF9,10, and 11. I was in no doubt gonna get it. While waiting for FF9, all of a sudden, I had a feeling to go back, to the roots. At gamefaqs.com I learned about Final Fantasy 2 and 3. Too bad I had sold my SNES. A week after Final Fantasy 5 and 6 were released on one packet. I was low on cash so I rented it. I wasn't quite happy with FF6 for some reason. But then I fell in love for FF5. And I meant it. 5 days was all I had. I slowed down because soon I would buy the game. Then FF9 became offical. I started to know that only one series has been the greatest out of series: Final Fantasy...

[email protected]I cannot wait for another masterpiece like Final Fantasy 7 or 8! I am practically pulling my hair out waiting for this game! My friend is the one who who introduced me to Final Fantasy 7 and I've been hooked on them ever since. I personnaly liked Final Fantasy 8 more than 7(except for the draw system) but thats just me! I hope that Final Fantasy 9 is just as big a masterpiece as the rest of them! Keep up the good work Squaresoft!

Aaron McCoy Anticipates: I have been a final fantasy fan since the very begining. like watching a baby grow up i have seen and enoyed all the final fantasy moments that we all shared when we got caught up in the game. FF7 and 8 were stunning in technoligies aspects and in the love twists. i cant wait to see how they return to thier roots so to speak.. the gameplay and story is definately going to be the best and the most captivating. i would expect no less from a final fantasy game.

Rusty Anticipates: My first FF title ever was ff3, i think. It wasn't mine, but my friend loved it. I thought it was stupid. Now i realize that sentence has two extra words: thought it. That leaves you with I was stupid. My first owned title, however, was ff7. This was the coolest thing I had seen yet! I couldn't stop playing! I must have played through that game at least three times now! I have seen what ff8 can do, and that is at least as amazing as ff7. how could square soft let ff9 flop? I am highly looking forward to the day when my dad will get me a PS2 or something, so I won't have to wait for P.C. titles. That sucks! Good job unraveling the plot though; I'm unspoiled yet hooked nonetheless. I imagine ff9 will do to the other ff titles what Majora's mask did to the Ocarina of time: totaly blow them away. Happy trails with your game!

[email protected] Anticipates: Obviously, Final Fantasy IX is the nineth series of the Final Fantasy series. The first FinalFastasy game I owned and played was Final Fantasy VIII. the graphics were immense and based on love. Then I got Final Fantasy VII. It had okay graphics, good story, good character, but I hate comic mischief in a game. Knowing that, I expect a huge improvement from Final Fantasy IX. Final Fantasy never worked on the details of the charaters in "cut sceens", but had amazing backrounds. I have to say, I like Zelda more, and spent all my money on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. But this game is worth the money, indefinately. I expect it to be an amazing game.
