The novel, Khakain: The Coming of the Chosen One, was created by and conceived of by, (Video Gamer X), myself, at approximately age 13. It really wasn't much of a novel at first. Prior to my having written an actual story, the idea of Khakain resided within a psudo role-playing game I, with assistance of a friend John Niles, developed in our spare time. I called it Drokmar, after a word I saw in a video game magazine poster, and the setting was a tiny island on a planet of all water kind of like the movie Waterworld. This island was represented as a medieval/sci-tech village I constructed out of LEGO's. There were basic characters in Drokmar and enemies. As I wanted to develop the role-playing game more I wanted to create a storyline and in doing so I found myself developing a history and a culture of this island. For awhile I threw around names for the enemy. At first I called them the "bad guys," then "The Federation Over the Control of Underling Peoples," and I finally settled on "The Controllers" since another federation was too similar to Star Trek. The main character was at first dubbed "Mr. Hero," then I settled on Commander Riley. The objective of the game was to obtain 9 crystals and destroy the enemy. Over time I expanded the game beyond the realm of the LEGO village and the island grew larger. I even reworked a new title. My little adventure was then called Xanaxeia. Many of the LEGO models were represented with drawings I made. I started adding new ideas and characters and I realized that I had too many for them to be confined as a simple game. In eighth grade I had some kind of journal where I began writing a story. In that story I wrote of a Commander in an ill fated mission. This little story became the basis for a novel yet to come.
Over the next year on a Brother Electronic Word Processor, I continued to write and expand the story into an epic, and eventually called it Khakain: The Coming of the Chosen One. I have to give credit to John, for providing some really great ideas that I found a use for. We invisioned what this novel would be like as a movie and listened to New Age music while we thought up the storyline and the progression of epic events. The strange circumstance of Khakain was that as John grew older his interest in our adventure waned and social pressure and drugs took their toll. I tried to keep the novel going myself, but as I progressed into High School and got a job, I found my time for it diminishing. It wasn't until I finally got a computer did I dust off the floppy disk and revive this legend in the making. I worked on it for some time and expanded the plot and invigorated the characters, but alas, again Khakain was put aside, for my work on the internet. You've seen my Video Game websites so you probably know the rest of the story.
Having played Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, VII, and VIII, I came to realize just how much Khakain could be a great literary masterwork like these games. It had all the elements and potential for being something millions of people could enjoy. When I embarked on crafting this journey, I had always hoped that someday I could adequately share Khakain with an audience, and the expansion and proliferation of the internet has granted me that ability. What you see today is my vision, an entire universe that resides within the realm of my thoughts. Join me as I weave the tale of the birth of a messiah, the conflicts and tragedies of a legendary man's life, the love that transcends superficial boundaries, the power of all knowledge, the darkness that lurks within us all, and the ultimate achievement of evolution. Let the scrolls be unfurled. Today is the day of manifestation! Kakyshka Khakain!
