Part V: The Stones

"Did you guys find anything, yet?" Ian asked the diggers, impatiently. He was standing over what was left of the crumbled temple.

"No, sir!" said one who could speak English.

"Well, you guys need to hurry! Cities all over the world are in danger!" Suddenly, Ian's cell phone rang. "Oh, no," he answered. "What's happening now?"

"The Weapons are coming!" the voice on the other line said. "You guys better hurry, or your toast!"

"That's just great! Why do they always have to follow me? This was supposed to be my vacation!" He hung up the phone. Then, he jumped into the dune and started helping the diggers. "Come on, guys! We've gotta hurry up! The Weapons are coming!" Suddenly, all of the workers dropped their tools and began to run. "Was it something I said?" He was all alone, now. So, he hurried along and grabbed a shovel, knowing that the future of mankind is resting solely in his hands, and he started to dig. Then, over the horizon he saw them. The Weapons were almost upon him. It was as if there was something drawing them to him...

He ran over to some gravel and started pushing some aside and tossing it about. Then, he found them! Three big gems; an emerald, a ruby, and a diamond. "Yes!" he exclaimed. "Here you are, you little beauties." First, he grabbed the emerald and as soon as he did, a bright green shone from it. The Emerald Weapon had stopped dead in its tracks. "Yes! One down, three to go." Suddenly, the remaining ones started to fire, what looked like tiny missiles that didn't explode, toward him. A few scratched him, but he was still determined. He picked up the ruby. The same happened to the Ruby Weapon. He did the same with the diamond. "Oh, no!" he just remembered: what about the flying one? "A Sphinx..." he said to himself. "What do I need?" In vain he dug around some more. "How about the Great Sphinx? I know what the doctor said, but..." It was his only chance. He ran over to where the Great Sphinx was moved. Dumbfounded, he started to climb it. When he got to the top, the Ultimate Weapon was almost upon him. So he ducked down, horrorstricken, and...

It stopped. Right before the Sphinx, it stopped. It just stood there and looked at him. Ian was right! Somehow, he was right! He immediately started jumping up and down, excitedly, when he noticed that it was still looking at him, following his every move, like a curious little monkey. As its new master, Ian, confident again, signaled it to lower its arm down to let him on. It did so. He climbed onto it and kept climbing until he reached the shoulder of the monster. He commanded it to walk-and it did. He was amazed. So Ian picked up his cell phone and called the President. "You won't believe this!" he began. "I guess I can finally have my coffee, now!"
