SHENMUE IMPRESSIONS

I simply adored this game. It was an awesome immersive gaming experience like no other that came before. I'm sure there will be games to come along in the future that will outpace Shenmue, perhaps even Shenmue II, but this game will be remembered for having stepped forward first. What is odd to me is how few gamers truly know about this game. I hear so little about it, and as it is, I never saw an advertisement for it on TV. It puzzles me really, how some of the best games ever made never get the glory of other games less worthy. Such was the fate with Xenogears, one hell of an RPG, probably the best plot I've ever laid eyes upon in an RPG. That's how some games are, they hide from the mainstream and are like pearls in oysters waiting to be uncovered by a vigilant gamer. Here's your opportunity to share your opinions about Shenmue. How did this game affect you? What did it make you realize about gaming, and what do you think will become of the Saga? I look forward to your input on this game.

Amanda Says: Well, I have now officially finished Shenmue... What a totally awesome game!! It took me a while to beat it though... not cause it was hard, but because my little brother kept deleting my file >_< Anyway, I finally did it! And I have to say it really is the best game ever made. The characters were so realistic, although Ryo had a more cartoonish anime look to him. It worked great though, he had a ton of expressions, and he was really cute. ^_^ Anyway, I was impressed how everything was spoken verbally, although I'd rather have them leave in the Japanese and just subtitle it (considering how much better the Japanese seiyuu were then the American voice actors). However, they did translate it and deliver the lines better then some games I've played. And the graphics were AWESOME!! I mean, everything was so deltained, you could poke everything, pick up everything, look at everything, open everything, and I mean EVERYTHING!! Ryo's house was a perfect traditional Japanese home (potty on the floor and all) and the Dojo was perfect too. The Dragon and Pheonix mirrors are really pretty too! And the kitten looked just like a real one. And Dobuita really gave me a New York City-ish feeling, and the harbor was perfect, and the cherry blossoms were animated wonderfuly... Awesome. And may I say something else? CHAI WAS SCARY. I'm serious. The little skinhead really freaked me out. I had a nightmare about him. He's probably the only video game bad guy that really scared me. He's the kinda guy you'd except to prey on little girls or something, you know? Anyway... something that I liked that some other people never really comment about it the music. I really liked Sha Hua and all it's variations (like the Xmas one!), especially the one with vocals that plays when Ryo saves Nozomi from Terry. And, I dunno about anyone else, but I really like The Spot, which was a song I think is only available on Shenmue Passport. Anyway I'm off, see ya VGX and keep up the good work!

[email protected] Explains: Your right when you say that Shemue is a pearl in an oyster. Only one of my friends knows about this game. I love how realistic it is. I laugh sometimes at people that say how realistic MM was, of course, for a Nintendo game, it was very enhanced. I also wish that people let you in there houses, that would be sweet. I love his job, too. After a while, it gets easy, but it's still really fun. I love buying chocolate in the candy store and stuff like that. Things so useless in a video game are fun. The arcade rocks, and so does collecting all of those mini guys I can't wait 'till they continue the game in part 2! ;)
