Of all the shows of the recent 10 years, Twin Peaks deserved better fate than it received. 4 Years before the X-Files, this show set the stage for the Paranormal Drama to come and boldly went into new territory. The Show starred Kyle McGlaughin as Dale Cooper, FBI Agent assigned to investigate the death of Laura Palmer in the small town on the Canadian border. Oddly enough Twin Peaks was cancelled after only 22 Episodes, considering the quality and story of the show was very involving and interesting. The series continued on to the Big Screen as Twin Peaks: Come Fire Walk With Me, but the movie failed abysmally. David Lynch went on to make another movie, Lost Highway, but this too did not perform at the Box Office.

In Twin Peaks there were ecentric characters that people all started to grow acquainted with as the series progressed like, Leland (Laura Palmer's Father), Ed (The Owner of Ed's Gas Farm), Josie (asian wife to owner of the Saw Mill), Harry S. Truman (Sherrif of Twin Peaks), Leo (trucker and wife beater), Coloniel Briggs, The Log Lady (used to talk to her log and introduced the show), Thomas Eckhardt, Nadine (Leland's wife that went nuts and became the personality of a teenager and had superhuman strength), Ben Horn, Andy (The Seemingly dim-witted deputy), Dr. Jacoby (The wacky psychiatrist guy with the two tone glasses), Donna (the sexy high school girl), Norma (Waitress at the Diner) Audrey (daughter of Owner of the Great Northern Hotel), Dwane (Old Man), Denise/Dennis (David Duchovny) Transvestite DEA Agent who assisted Dale in getting his FBI badge back after he was accused of trafficking drugs. There were places that I can remember like the RR Roadhouse, the Bookhouse Boys, The Saw Mill, The Great Northern Hotel, The High School, Dead Dog Farm. Dale Cooper's character developed and changed over time, and he became caught up in the strange bittersweet euphoria of the twisted Twin Peaks world. His obsession over the discovery of Windham Earl, and the The White Lodge, became his ultimate undoing.

Of any series of shows, this one had to be the one you had to pay the most attention to because events in past episodes would have bearings on new episodes and each character hid their own secrets and and internal demons. These self-deficiencies became the food that an evil spirit from the Black Lodge, Bob, used to grow more powerful. Behind the serene northwestern town there hid a sinister dark force that played havoc on the psyche's of it's inhabitants driving many of them to insanity. Even Dale Cooper found himself becoming serenaded by the melancholy bittersweet voice of Twin Peaks and the dreamy world that pervaded every aspect of the . The show was dripping with sexual love triangles and odd relationships.

For a year or so people got Twin Peaks mania, and it was even nominated for an Emmy. Then as time passed this gem of a show mysteriously like Twin Peaks vanished into the mist of obscurity. The show was eventually cancelled and the pages of Television history left this show behind to collect dust in the closet of shows that could have been. Even Nintendo had Twin Peaks listed as a future game in it's Nintendo Power Magazine, then later the game too was cancelled. What amazes me is how much this show resembled the X-Files, and if the fledgeling network Fox had this show then I think it would have replaced the X-Files as Fox's most watched drama show and it may have continued on beyond it's death in 1990. The direction this show was heading toward really put it in the realm of the X-Files and the macabre plot was very will written for it's time. Oddly enough, X-Files stars David Duchovny appeared in this show as the Transvestite DEA Agent and Dale's friend who helped him in clearing his name after drugs were found in his care. Is it possible that Chris Carter got ideas from this show? Perhaps his choice to cast David Duchovny as agent Fox Mulder stems from his examination of this show? Makes you wonder doesn't it?

When I was like 10 I watched this show with my mom sometimes at 10:00 on Thursdays, and I just loved it because it raised so many questions and delved into the depth of the human psycological experience. It kept me interested, and always thinking what the secret behind Laura Palmer's death was and who committed the crime and why. New scenarios and characters like myserious entities from the lodges (alternate dimensions of thought and reality), "The Dwarf" and "The Giant," always kept you interested and the plot twisted. One thing is for sure, if you have a chance watch this show. I have seen it on Syndicated cable on channels like "Bravo" and it's worth a look. If you like the X-Files, then you will like Twin Peaks. I myself have taped every episode of this worthwhile TV drama classic.

Something you may not realize is the Co Producer of this show David Lynch, created such epic movies like, "Dune," an adaptation of the Frank Herbert classic, which starred Kyle McGlaughin as "Mo'a dib" Patrick Stewart, and Sting. As I said before, Lynch went on to make other films like Twin Peaks: Come Fire Walk With Me and Lost Highway.
