VIDEO GAMER X EXCLUSIVE: NEW GAME CONSOLE COMPANY APPEARS FROM NOWHERE TO CLAIM SUPERIORITY TO X-BOX, GAMECUBE, and PS2

There really hasn't been a whole pile of new buzz on console video game hardware in recent times with the success of the X-Box, Playstation 2, and the GameCube entering their stride after a couple years of installment, however reaching the year 2003, were now about 2 years away from yet another generational console update that is likely to take place in 2005. A fan of the sites tipped me off to something new, that I know absolutely no video gaming sites or magazines have yet picked up on, and I really don't know yet what to make of it.

First and foremost, check out this site then come back there to read more:

INFINIUM LABS

Okay, so what do we make of this? They are really making some lofty claims there. Apparently the "Phantom" is a device that will revolutionize the gaming industry. Apparently it's a set top console that will download new games and be so incredibly powerful that it will be able to play any game and even interact with PC gamers. Allegedly according to the presentation it will revolutionize gaming beyond what it already is. There's even a schedule of debut dates and showings for this console including the big ones like E3, Comdex, and CES. I theory it sounds impressive, but there doesn't appear to be anything on that site aside from hype, no screenshots or actual hardware shots, rather just animations and propaganda.

First of all, who the hell are "Infinium Labs?" I mean, it's not like previous failed attempts like the Atari Jaguar, the Phillips CD-I and the 3D0, at least we knew who those companies were that created a paperweight, but Infinium Labs? As it is, the box looks like a piece of vaporware waiting to happen. As it would seem, you never actually own the game you are playing rather you license the download of that game until you're done, and it goes onto the hard drive. I assume that once you download the game it's saved on the HD, but ahh, what if the HD crashes or you drop your unit, all that money you spent on downloaded games would get flushed, you don't have a CD or DVD to put into the machine to start playing your game again. I've been fearing the day when an idea like this would appear where someone would turn video games into a pay per view type scheme and you would cease to own the actual game. In a way this will eventually create a collectors market for old playable disc and cart based games. I don't really think "Infinium Labs" has a snowball's chance in hell of toppling giants like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, but this idea is one that all these console companies are working toward.

You never know this site might just be a hoax created by someone to create some online gossup. If anyone who reads my sites has any further information or conclusive proof about Infinium Labs or "The Phantom" that can come forward please do so.
