PLAY IT LOUD! The Best Video Game Midi's on Earth What is it that captures the essense of a game, and makes us recognize it forevermore? It is without a doubt that the ambiance that is created by the music and instramentation carrying on behind the scenes as we play bind the memories of a gaming experience into our hearts. Who can't hum the Super Mario Bros. ditty or the song of Hyrule's overworld? Just as generations of old associate parts of their life with music of the appropriate time period so too do we gamers remenisce when we hear the "classics" of our favorite games and game series. There are overtures and ballads that form the matrix of our dreams and aspirations of conquest and glory. I, Video Gamer X, present to you the Greatest Video Game Music ever made. Any video gamer born in the latter 20 years of the twentieth century will forever remember these timeless video game classics. I suggest you turn your speakers WAY up and sit back and experience these masterpieces of instramentation. All Files are in Midi Format. A high quality Sound Card IS Recommended!Sonic The Hedgehog III - Ice Cap Zone - WARNING, prepare yourself, this one hits HARD. A mix of techno and metal, I almost want to call it an anthem for the '90's - a tumultious yet mysteriously anticipative decade. Trust me this tune Rocks! Enjoy. Super Metroid - Norfair (The Really Hot Part) - Ahh, yes my favorite of the entire game. I can just remember those steamy caverns now. Kind of reminds me of an army from Hell on the move. This song is begging to have words put to it. Castlevania IV - Final Battle - Castlevania fans rejoice! One of Konami's finest creations always had great background game music with a modern classical/gothic feel and an upbeat tempo. Super Mario Bros. 2 - Perhaps one of the most awaited sequels of all time, this tune uses a ragtime boogie to supply the ambiance of Subcon on the first stage. Pretty impressive for the Nintendo. If you haven't heard this music before then you've probably been locked away for the last eleven years. Definitely a classic. Mega Man 4 - Dr. Cossack Stg. Pt. 2 - This could be the next dance club craze with it's awesome upbeat tempo and rave sound. Truly a killer piece of music. Blaster Master - Stage 6 - Another dance club cantidate? Cool digitech mid eighties sound. Trust me, you'll like this one. Zelda II: The Adventures of Link-Thunderbird Palace - when I first heard this tune in 1988, when I first played Zelda II, I swore that it was most awesome thing I had ever heard. And even to this day I admire this one especially since it was accomplished on, by todays standards, the Low Tech original Nintendo. This is definitly a retro-gaming masterpiece. The Secret of Mana-Opening Theme - This one almost brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. Brings back memories of a simpler time and age when carefree fun was all I knew. Metroid - Opening Theme - Perhaps the most minimalist intros of all video game music the Metroid theme added that sense of eerieness and uncertainty to the ambiance of the game. Throughout Metroid it's that strange music that keeps you on edge wondering what kind of creature awaits on the other side of that air lock. I first saw the game and heard the opening music on an arcade machine in 1986. This game is truly a classic. Super Mario World - Intro - zippity do dah! Mario and his pal Yoshi make their big entrance. Can you remember the first time you saw this game and heard this music? I can, it was on a commercial. (I taped it when I was a kid, and still have the tape!) This is definitly from Nintendo's glory days of being top dog in the industry. Xenogears - Shevat - A very contemplative theme and one of the best of the game. Square must really like Nobuo Uemetsu, the musical engineer behind RPG gaming's most revered scores. Final Fantasy II - Battle Theme - Awesome, utterly awesome! I don't know about you but Final Fantasy has to be the best series of RPG's ever made. The conveyance of true power in instramentational effect is apparent throughout the series. Final Fantasy II - Final Battle - One word - EPIC. This is comparable to pieces done by great composers like Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach. Final Fantasy III - Overworld Theme - When listening to this I am taken to a far off land of magic and fantasy. This one always gets me emotional, a truly mesmerizing piece. Listen with memories of Moogles and Mogs in you heart. Final Fantasy VII - Chocobo Theme - Surf's up dudes! Theres a whimsical relationship with the Beach Boys in here somewhere, I just know it. Definitly a Squaresoft classic. Final Fantasy VII - Aeris Dies - A very emotional requiem for a fallen heroine. Any gamer will remember the day Aeris died. Final Fantasy VII - Cosmo Canyon - Make's me wish I knew the Native Americans before Europeans corrupted their lands and destroyed their culture. Final Fantasy VII - The Highwind - This is a very captivating and colossal piece. Really did make me feel like I was flying. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Gerudo Valley - Very cool spanish ambiance. This music carries itself very well and is the best of Zelda 64. Earthworm Jim - Andy Asteroids - Docey-do your partner, and YEE-HAW. This one's just plain comical. It went well with the whole Earthworm Jim motif. I just can't help but laugh at this one. It's still very well instramentated though considering it was for a video game and not a howdown. Anybody for some haybail rides!
