THE QUEST FOR THE BIG MECHS

You know one thing that has impressed me about Japanese animation and Video Games is their uncanny expression of the artistic warmachine in the form of a robo-mechs in Anime/Akira/Gundam etc.. You know, I often wonder why someone hasn't built one of these yet. You know how awesome it would be to see an army of these guys marching or hovering in file toward an enemy. I mean, I often wonder what would stop the military from creating a giant human controlled robo-mech or even an AI controlled one. If you consider the amount of cost and effort that goes into building a Stealth Fighter or an Aircraft Carrier, then it would seem that a giant anime-style mech would be a reasonable perhaps even less costly undertaking. Imagine the intimidation factor if an army was headed by a row of 100 foot high anime mechs with massive pistons driving the legs and arms, a massive-fully automatic 100mm cannon or laser cutting device, covered with color schemed and decoratative elaborate armor. Shoulders equipped with Tomahawk missles. That would kick ass as a weapon. Heck if I was president of a country I would commission the construction of an battallion of Mechs that could trash things like tanks just by stepping on them and blow up planes with missles anti-aircraft heat seeking missles attatched. I'm assuming that due to the lack of effiecient mobility and obvious difficulty to prevent from being destroyed by planes Big Mechs were ruled out by the military. It's not like you can't see or hear one coming. (Rumble-Thump...Clank, Rumble-Thump...Clank) Heck, I don't see why they don't make these just for the hell of it. I swear the intimidation of a giant robot the size of a 7 Story building would be enough to make me surrender. I say someone should make decent plans for one of these things and give it to the military to have our tax dollars spent on the defense budget put to good use. I think more people would take notice of the military if they had more cool stuff to show people like giant robo-mechs. I say we make a petition to have the government commission the construction of an Anime-Style Robo-Mech. I mean they make weapons of distruction right? Might as well make them have an artistic touch and look good. And that gunmetal grey and cammo just has to go. You could make the army of Mechs in different color schemes, and have the eyes glow and paint designs on the chest plates and so forth. *SIgh* Alas, no one thinks like me...

There's another possbility for creating a mech. If some rich guy like Bill Gates or Ted Turner wanted to he could get the 50 million up to make one of these. 50 million to them is like pocket change to us. King Louis XVII has Versailes. Many rich guys leave behind some kind of calling card or mark in history. Pharoahs built pyramids, Donald Trump made Trump Towers, John D. Rockerfeller made the Rockerfeller Center, so why couldn't a guy like Bill Gates create a giant working anime style mech, that could do various tasks. Geez, if I was a multibillionare I would buy rice for everybody in those poor countries for 10 years, and still have enough left over to make an entire army of Mechs.

Maybe my optimism is short sighted and mechs of this caliber are only things of scifi and anime until the future makes such technology feasible. I just know it's possible today, but it just doesn't seem to be something people are looking toward developing. I have seen robots produced as experiments and prototypes by various companies but something as massive as a huge mech has not even remotely been attempted. If you know of something like this, then by all means let me know because I would like to take a look at it.
