THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK TO THE PAST ITEMS

Link's Uncle's Sword - This the first item Link receives in the game from his uncle after he is found in the sewers of the castle.

The Master Sword - This is the legendary sword of evil's bane. Only the Hero with the bloodline of the Hero of Time can wield it. After obtaining all three of the pendants, Link must return to the grove in the lost woods where the master sword is magically sheathed in stone. The spell is broken and Link is granted the abiltiy to wield it. When Link has maximum energy he can shoot a beam from the master sword, this is called the Blade Beam Attack.

Tempered Master Sword - After saving the transformed blacksmith from the Dark World and returning him to the light world you can then have him Temper the Master Sword, further increasing it's strength.

Enchanted Tempered Master Sword - By bombing the wall at the great pyramid of Power in the Dark World with a super bomb, Link will encounter a fat great fairy. If link tosses in the Master Sword she will Enchant it and further increase it's strength. You must have the Tempered Master Sword first before you can do this.

Fighter's (Hylian) Shield - This is the second item given to Link by his uncle after he is fallen. Use the shield to block attacks. Pikits can eat this shield.

Red Shield - The Red Shield can either be purchased from a shop for 500 Rupees or obtained. Pikits can eat this shield.

Mirror Shield - I great shield with a mirror surface. This shield can reflect laser beams and is obtained in Turtle Rock dungeon. Pikits can not eat Link's Mirror shield.

Green Tunic - Link's clothing. There is nothing special other than he is dressed in traditional green!

Blue Tunic - Located in big chest in the Ice Palace, This decreases Link's damage taken by enemies.

Red Tunic - This tunic is located in Turtle Rock dungeon and further increases Link's protection against damage from enemies.

Pegasus Shoes - After Link proves himself to Sahasrahla and obtains the Pendant of Courage, he is given the Pegasus shoes. After pressing A link will dash forward very quickly. You can use this to run into objects and knock things out of trees.

Power Glove - Located in a big chest in the Desert Palace Link can use the power glove to lift up the ligher colored rocks that block his way, however the darker colored ones are still too heavy. I don't doubt that Nintendo decided to call it Power Glove after their own screwy peripheral by the same name. "Power Glove"

Titan's Mitt - This item is obtained in Blind's Dungeon beneath the statue in the middle of Dark World ruined Kakariko. You use the Titan's mitt to life the darker colored rocks, like the one blocking access to the frog beneath this area. Once you obtain the Titan's mitt you can free him and return him to the Light World and bring him to the smithy shop, where you can get your Master Sword tempered.

Zora's Flippers - In order to enter Zora's domain Link must already have the Power Glove, (as well as an NES Advantage and Satellite...uh...sorry) once there he can work his way to King Zora and he will give you the Zora Flippers for 500 Rupies.

Moon Pearl - When Link must first enter the Dark World, he discovers that he is transformed into a helpless Pink Bunny! He is unable to use any of his weapons in his fuzzy form. In order to remain normal in the Dark World, link must obtain the Moon Pearl from teh Tower of Hera. According to A Link to the Past, you turn into what ever is contained within your heart inside of the Dark World/Golden Realm, I wonder what exactly is inside Link's heart where he turns into a pink bunny.

Bow and Arrows - This is one of Link's first secondary weapons that he receives in the Eastern Palace. The bow and Arrows can be upgraded to Silver Arrows by the Fat Fairy underneath the Great Pyramid in the Dark World. You will need silver arrows to defeat Ganon, the last boss in the game.

Boomerang - The boomerang is Link's first secondary Item he finds in Hyrule Castle at the beginning of the game. It will stun some enemies, and can be used to retrieve items or hit switchs across gaps.

Enchanted (Red) Boomerang - The fairy behind the waterfall near Zora's Domain will upgrade your regular boomerang if you throw it in the water. The Enchanted Boomerang goes even further than the regular one.

Bombs - This items has been a contant in the series since the first game. Bombs are used to blow up enemies or obstructions. If you see a crack in the wall, or floor chances are you can blow it up with a bomb. You'll need a super bomb if you want to blow a hole in the Great Pyramid in the Dark World. The bomb shop that sells it is located in the same location where Link's house was in the Light World. You can increase the total capacity of bombs Link can carry by goign to the Fountain of Happiness and dumping rupies into the pond.

Hookshot - Boing! The hookshot is used to grapple onto distant objects and draw Link to them. It can also act as a secondary boomerang and retrieve distant items that might be across a chasm. It also does damage to enemies or paralizes them.

Magic Mushroom - Link needs this item to give to the witch (drug dealer) to make him Magic Powder (cocaine). Magic Mushrooms are found in the Lost Woods.

Magic Powder - After Link gives the Witch the Magic Mushroom, he can return to the shop and her apprentice will give you Magic Powder. Magic Powder had different effects on different things. If you drop it on a bush, the bush will decinigrate. Some enemies can be transformed, and the chicken in one of the houses in Kakariko turns into a person by using the powder. You can also use it to turn annoying skulls with the fires around them that bounce around dungeon chambers into fairies, which is very useful. Magic Powder uses a little bit of Link's Magic Bar.

Fire Rod - This item shoots a flame to either attack enemies or light distant torches in a dungeon. It works especially well on Ice or water enemies and Gibdos. As well, to gain entry into the Skull Palace Link must use the Fire Rod to open the entrance.

Ice Rod - Hmm, I guess it's kind of obvious. It shoots icy blasts at things. It can be used to freeze some enemies, even soldiers. If you freeze the enemy he can be picked up like a rock and you can throw him. If you hit a frozen enemy with the Hammer, that enemy will crumble. You'll find it located east of Lake Hylia behind a cracked wall.

Bombos Medallion - There are three medallions throughout the game, the first is the Bombos Medallion. The one creates a circle of fire around Link setting any enmies in range on fire. It can be found by reading the ancient Hylian monolith near the Desert Palace with the Book of Mudora.

Ether Medallion - Located on top of Death Mountain west of the Tower of Hera, the Ether Medallion will create a flashbang and orbs will go flying away from Link. It can be used to stop the constaint rain of the swamp palace in the Dark World.

Quake Medallion - This has nothing to do with the First Person Shooter by the same name, rather once obtained it will allow Link to plunge his sword into the ground creatting an earthquake. It is found by throwing something into the circle of stones near the area where the entrance to Zora's Domain had been in the Light World.

The Lamp - Yep, that's what it is, a lamp. Link gets it from his own house at the beginning of the game. If for some stupid reason you don't open the obvious chest in his house, it is found in two others in Hyrule Castle. It makes a small radius of light around Link when he's in total darkness. It can also be used to light torches. Once you obtain the fire rod the lamp is rendered less useful, however I've beaten ganon at the end of the game without ever using the Fire Rod before.

Hammer - It's Hammertime. (Interestingly enough M.C. Hammer, the man with the genie pants, was pretty popular about the time A Link to the Past came out, 1992). Once you get the hammer from the Dark Palace in the Dark World, you can use it to (drumroll please...) pound down pegs! Although it's kind of silly to see a small pegged fence block the greatest hero in Hyrule from somehow jumping over it, in this game he needs a hammer to pound those pegs down. Actually, once you do get the hammer, there is a way to skip 2 temples in the Dark World and get the Master Sword tempered before ever going to the Water Palace. The Hammer can also be used to pound the ground near enemies like turtles to flip them over. Usually a second pound kills them.

Shovel - As if Link doesn't have anything better to do, the aardvark looking guy in the Haunted Grove in the Dark World gives him a shovel and asks him to go into the Light World to look for his Flute. Once you get the shovel, just warp to the Light World with the Magic Mirror, and dig around the stump and you'll find the flute. You can dig into the ground and find rupies sometimes with the shovel. When I was bored while playing the game, I would shovel every diggable tile on the screen.

The Flute - The aardvark in the Dark World used to be a boy (possibly a Kokiri remant?) who hung out in the little grove and played it for animals. This item is actually an ocarina and appears identical to The Ocarina of Time. If you play it in front of the weathervane in the center of Kakariko in the Light World, the top will burst and a bird will pop out. Any time you play the Flute the bird will pick link up and you will be given the option of being dropped of at various strategically located places around Hyrule.

Bug Catching Net - You can catch a lot of different things in the bug catching net. Yes you can catch bugs like bees. If you catch a certain bee, you can release it and it will cause damage to enemies on the screen until they die. You can catch fairies and fish and put them in bottles.

Book of Mudora - O Holy book of lore! The Book of Mudora is the Hyrulian Bible or Quran, left behind by the Hylians, who lived hundreds of years before. There are various stone monuments and plaques around Hyrule written in Hylian left over from their era. Link will need the Book of Mudora to translate those relics. It's too bad you don't actually ever get to read the Book of Mudora, that would be cool if the added some storyline to A Link to the Past and gave the player the ability to read all the stuff inside.

Bottles - Bottles are used to store your captives. Like most kids who find a bug, Link puts his in jars. And somehow they magically don't die! You can also put potions in the bottles like Red, Blue, and Green, to save for later. One is obtained from the merchant on the rug in Kakariko. A second is found underneath the bridge that leads to Hyrule Castle. You'll have to swim underneth it and find a Hyrulian homeless camped out. He will give you the bottle. One of the easiest to find is located via the back door of the inn. Just go inside and open the chest. The fourth is kind of hard, but basically you have to take the locked chest from the ruined house in the Dark World where the smithys are in the Light World, and take that chest to the guy that stands next to the sign that says to ignore him. He will open the chest for you, inside there is a bottle.

Magic Mirror - Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is the finest of them all? Link is given the mirror on the way to the Tower of Hera. It is used to travel between the light world and the dark world. You must first be in the Dark World to use the Mirror and not vice versa. The Magic Mirror will leave behind a portal that Link can re-enter to get into the Dark World again.

Magic Cape - This makes Link Invisible until his magic runs out or he stops using it. It is found in the graveyard in the Light World under the easternmost huge gravestone. You'll have to bash into it. You can either lift up the rocks surrounding it, or get there by using the Magic Mirror from the Dark World to teleport inside the barrier.

Cane of Somaria - Sounds similar to Sumaria, and ancient mesopotamian civilization. Once Link obtains this cane he can create a block. The block can be used to hold down a switch, or you can push it into enemies to cause damage. If you don't feel like dragging a statue to go hold down a switch just use this.

Cane of Byrna - This cane creates a forcefield around Link until his magic meter runs out or he shuts it off. This item doesn't get a whole lot of use in the game, but it's still kind of cool.

Map (Dungeon Item) - The map shows you the chambers of the dungeon.

Compass (Dungeon Item) - This pinpoints the lair of the boss of the dungeon/Palace.

BIG Key (Dungeon Item) - Its big. The big key opens the Big Chest (always contains some important item to use in the dungeon or the next), and the Big Key door before the Boss Room.
