ODYSSEY OF HYRULE DONATION BOX

First and foremost I want to thank the countless fans who have visited this site these past six years. It's been fun to have a website that has been something enjoyable for people of all ages and backgrounds. As all things go, one can not stay idle for very long, and that being the case, I think the Odyssey of Hyrule deserves to last as a testament to the legacy that is Zelda. As well, there is a great deal of content that I want to deliver and have always wanted to share with fans of this site and my work, however due to various difficulties surrounding costs and so forth it has been entirely impossible to do such things. I have always been about upholding the good virtues of the internet, the free extange of words and ideas. I have never charged or asked for money of my visitors for any multimedia or "insider" or "exclusive" or "complete" content. Many sites have now moved to format that forces the reader to pay a monthly fee or a yearly subscription to view the content, which I think is pushing it and exploiting people, considering most of those type of sites haul in plenty of money from advertising revenue. This site however does not, and I abhor advertizing, Pop-ups, and Flash Ads. Those things are annoying.

In order for me to deliver the kind of content that will truly make this site stand out beyond the rest and bring some of the most incredible things to gamers, I need a way to fund such endevors. I am just an ordinary person, I have real world responsibilites now that I'm older that preclude my ability to spend my own money on my websites. Food, shelter, clothing, electricity, phone, car, loved ones, etc all come before such expenses as a website. I already pay fees for internet access as it is. If I were wealthy it would be nothing for me to basically buy my own server and host this site with an inexhaustable cache of files and material for visitors however the reality of life precludes such things taking place. That being the case this is your opportunity to be a contributor to this site and therein you can make it as impressive as it truly could be.

The Odyssey of Hyrule has never been a .com address. At one point in time I thought about doing it, however the monthly service charge of hosting a website on the current server is just not econmical for me, and there are extra fees for email accounts and bandwidth, etc. As well so many people had memorized that convoluted archaic URL and even linked to it all over the internet that changing the URL would only confuse people and make them think the site had been erased. The webhost TBI has already changed the URL so that no longer matters so much, but I would love to have people able to use www.odysseyofhyule.com or something similar to navigate here than internal.tbi.net/~max/zelda64.htm. That seems to make a lot of logical sense. Again this takes and costs money.

I have at my disposal on my computer perhaps the most complete collection of video game based music stored in MP3 format anywhere (approaching 1000 files), many of this is actual remixes or Rearrangements that are incredible, and need to be heard to be believed. I would love to bring such beauty especially the Zelda music to the whole world and be a vehicle for amateur musicians who cover for video game music or create instrumentations of Zelda to display their work online at a place where it will get the most recognition. As well there are a lot of people proficient with Flash animation, and I want this site to be a venue for animators who create such things related to Zelda to allow other's to enjoy their work. I do not currently have the allowable online storage capacity to make this possible, and this is also another fee involved.

It would also be nice to have a PHP based Message Board forum system that way it could be customized to appear like the site and also allow for quick and easy navigation of topics and posts. As of right now, I am using a free service called EZboard which is adequate however it inundates users with pop up advertising, and has intermittent slowdowns. I think this would be an excellent way for people in the Zelda community to keep in touch with each other at one central place.

Donating is not a requirement, but donations would get such things accomplished and make everyone happy. I promise that I would use such donated money specifically for the site, and not my own personal gains. You can donate as little as $1.00 via a secure transaction on PayPal or more if you feel so inclined. If you don't have a PayPal account, I recommend it, it's the best way to pay for things online when you don't want people to get a hold of your personal info. I use it for Ebay occasionally and a couple other sites for things like LEGO's. I will be making a Hall of Fame for donors, kind of like those plaques they put on seats and various venues for people who donated to the instituion. You can choose to leave your name, or a ScreenName, or be entirely Anonymous. It's up to you.
