In Zelda 64 as with any video game the object of the game is not to get killed by the monsters and Ganon's minions hiding throughout Hyrule in one dark crevice or another, but has anyone actually ever catelogued the many varied ways in which our hero in the green tunic perishes. The ways of Link's death are numerous and many. We've seem him impaled, incinerated, crushed, electrocuted, frozen, and drowned. His faces of death are more often than not embedded into our memory. The following scenarios of Link's death have been over dramatized. Normally, we all know that when he dies he just falls flat on his face no matter what kills him, but in the following scenarios, I supplied the missing realism. Mwa, ha, ha, ha... Drowning - Use the Iron Boots and wear the Green Tunic and find a nice deep lake. Watch as the time ticks away toward Link's demise as water fills his lungs and his body becomes inundated with carbon dioxide and he suffocates. *Alternate Strange Drowning Trick* - Perform the "Swordless Link" trick, and dismount Epona. Go into a lake, then press the A button to get back on. You can also get off her again and the clock will tick down while Link is on dry land in open air. He will drown in the open air right before your eyes. Freezing - Allow Link's hearts to dwindle to about less than a heart. Walk up to one of the Ice Blowers in the Ice Cavern and let it freeze you. You will die as the effects of hypothermia set in and Link's heart and brain stop functioning due to a lessening of his circulation and a low body temperture. Suicide Dive - Allow Link to have one or less heart. Go to the ledge at the top of Death Mountain Trial by where Biggoron is. Leap off the ledge and let him scream in fear as he plummets to the rockface and dies as all his bones in his body shatter and all his major organs hemorrage. Stoning - On Death Mountain Trail remove the Hylian Shield and allow the boulders to continually rain down on the hapless youth. He will die when the one of those car sized stones completely crack his skull like and egg and his body is mashed to a bloody pulp. Explosion - allow Link to get to I quarter of a heart and drop a bomb in front of him. He will die as shrapnel peppers his flesh and pulverizes his body. Ghoulish Humping - Go up to a ReDead and it will grab on to your back and it will wrap it's mouth around the back of Link's skull to slup up those tasty brains. Watch in horror as Link is sucked dry of life and collapses to ground. What you don't see is when all the ReDeads come back later to snack on his maggot riddled corpse for a second course. Acid Bath - Find a nice puddle of stinking smoking sulfuric acid. Drop Link in there. Watch as his flesh is withered away and he writhes in agony then green bacteria laden acid consumes his body and his pink fleshy skeleton crumples to the ground. Incineration - Allow Link to fall into a Fire. Watch as his flesh chars and his screams of pain reverberate though the dungeon. Drop him into Lava, and watch as body is consumed by fire and his flesh turns into a stinking pink mist with his charred black skeleton slowly sucked under the magma. In the Death Mountain Crater allow Link to run out of time and you can watch as he spontaneously combusts and flames sprout from his lifeless corpse. Severe Blugeoning - Go up to the Giant Moblin near the Forest Temple and he will pound his club into Link sending his brused and busted up body hurling though the air to land like tossed sack in the corner. His eyeballs are popped out of his skull and blood oozes from all his bodily orafaces. Impalement - Find a nice angry Moblin with a big spear. If Link is against the wall the Moblin will keep pummeling the hapless hero until he is ripped apart. The pissed off Moblin will plough though Link with the massive stabbing impliment and complete the finishing blow. Blood with gush from Link's gaping lascerations. WIth the spear stuck in Link the moblin will put his foot on him and boot him off. Cucco Attack - A famous penalty for skewering cuccos is when a beaten cucco summons it's brethren to peck at Link unmercilessly. Rejoicing over his beaten, lascerated and brused body, the cuccos with dine on Link's remains in triumph over their victory over this menace to their livelihood. Electrocution - Some creatures that inhabit Hyrule have a natural defense system where thousands of volts course through the nervious system of their victim causing severe neural damage and fibrilation of the heart. Watch as electrical current puts an end to Link's ill-fated existence and the Baranade defends itself. ![]() Back to The Odyssey of Hyrule |
