It has been years since a decent Zelda game has been released, (1993, "Link's Awakening," to be exact.) and the newest incarnation of the series is bringing in rave reviews. It is by far the greatest game for Nintendo 64, and its only decent Adventure/RPG. Quest 64 was a joke, a pale imitation of what can be attained with the hardware. Gamers were longing for this title and if Nintendo hadn't come out with it this year then their system was likely doomed to the road of the Jaguar and the Saturn. Sure the N64 is an excellent machine, but what good is all that technology if you make sub-par games for it (Goldeneye 007, and Banjo Excluded). I've heard it said that the N64 is a kids system in many respects. The Playstation with inferior hardware and older technology has accomplished masterpieces (Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Xenogears, Etc. ) that few will deny are at the cutting edge of a gaming experience. It's a worthy event to see a Zelda game again. It brings back good memories and feelings to see our hero in the green tunic back to conquer the evil Ganon and bring peace to the land of Hyrule. Some younger gamers will not remember the day the original first Zelda game came out, but it like the debut of Star Wars is an event unforgotten by history. We know the names and characters, we remember the places, and the adventure begins yet again. Games like Zelda will stand the test of time, and transcend fad or contemporary fashion. There is art in a game that captures the imaginations of people of all ages. This is something to cherish. The first day you play Zelda will be like a return to childhood, to a simpler time when you were free from cares or worries. Let the adventure begin!
