FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Lately I've been so inundated with mail that I felt it was necessary to create this page to answer quite a few questions that keep popping up regarding various issues related to Zelda and The Odyssey of Hyrule website. I hope that before you E-mail me you read this page and try to find an answer to your question or comment.

Q:The music doesn't work or sounds terrible on your site, what's wrong?
A:There are a few possibilities. First, you may not have a Midi plug-in for the browser you are using. These can be easily downloaded from the browser's respective website. The browser you are using may be too old to support Midi. You may be using Internet Explorer or an outdated version of AOL. You may be using a QuickTime Movie Player plug-in to play media files in your browser (It does strange things to the music - squirrels banging nuts on pots). I suggest using Netscape Communicator or later Java Enabled versions browsers to view this website. Your sound card may be rather antiquated i.e SoundBlaster 8 or 16 or may be of an incompatable type. I suggest listening to the Midi Music on many of the pages with a sound card that has a higher polyphonic depth as well as instramentational sampling. With this quality you will experience CD quality sound from any of the Zelda music on the Odyssey of Hyrule website and any Midi File. I have a SoundBlaster AWE64 Gold and it sound great!

Q:Is there a Fire Sword in Zelda 64?
A:Simply put, no. There is no kind of sword like this. These are only rumors. There is also no "Platinum Scale,"Golden Tunic," "Magic Wallet," "Silver Saddle," or "Bunny Shoes" Sorry to disappoint. I wish there were more hidden items in the game too, but there aren't any more than what we already know about.

Q: Can I help you out on the site, you seem to need help.
A:"I shall be unfettered by all, to roam across the frontier of my world casting conformity and society to the wayside. I will let my name represent an emancipation from the confines of what others desire me to become or conform. My voice will echo across the lands and times where seekers raise an ear. I am the beginning and the end, the part and the whole." - Video Gamer X, (Year of the Unspoken Catyclism, ~1999~)

Q:Why was my website put on the "Wall of Shame!"
A:Due to people's lack of respect for the sanctity of my work and the time and effort I have made in creating this site it was necessary to create a section that admonishes individuals who frivously plagarize, duplicate, and otherwise ruin the true uniqueness and quality that is "The Odyssey of Hyrule" This includes downloading the files onto your computer, altering the HTML and some of the text to format your site, actual copying of the pages and displaying them elsewhere on the internet, as well as duplication of page layouts and Index Page Graphic Arangements. If the problem with a website that does not remove the information copied directly from my site persists I do have options at my disposal to have the situation corrected by either having the suspect page's owner's Internet Access revoked or if worse comes to worse a legal course could result. Personally I don't want to take this extreme measure, but you must remember that the reason I make the "Odyssey of Hyrule" is for Zelda fans everywhere to enjoy an internet Zelda experince like no other and the time I spent in creating this site is very valuable to me even though I currently receive no pay or compensation for writing everything on the site. The "Odyssey of Hyrule" is your place for everything that is Zelda, and makes the game a masterpiece. I hope that the owners of sites that end up in the "Wall of Shame" learn a valuable lesson about taking credit for something you have not done. You gamers out there can bring a halt to "Wall of Shamers" by reporting the site, and telling the webmaster he or she needs to change what they have done.

Q: The "Swordless Link" trick won't work in my game. You are lying about that.
A: Since there are many people that do not read the DISCUSSION section for that answer I will AGAIN post it here. First off, "Swordless Link" only works on SOME Zelda 64's, there ARE different carts. In fact as of writing this there are three different carts. Version 1.0, Version 1.1. and Version 1.2. Those who have version 1.0 of the game (mostly gold cartridges and some grey) can do the trick. If you can't do the trick then you have one of the "fixed" versions of the game. If you know someone who has a Gold Cartridge try the trick on one of theirs. All future letters about this topic will be ignored. Trust me I'm not lying.

Q: How do I get past such-and-such part or beat such-and-such bad guy? Could you provide a detailed description.
A: This is another example of people who don't read the site entirely. I'm pretty sure that the answer you are looking for will be found in one of the "Strategy Guide" sections like The Walkthrough or Top Secret.

Q: When will you update the site? Will you send me the days that you update the site.
A: Like you fans out there I do have a life beyond my computer and the internet. I have responsibilities that need to be met and sometimes I may not be able to update the site everyday or even every few days, but rest assured there will always be interesting information and news ariving on a regular basis. I do not send out update deadline lists because this is pointless. This is MY site remember and I can update it at MY convienience.

Q: Did you know that you can beat Dark Link with Biggoron's Sword or the Megaton Hammer? Did you know you could get that silver rupee in the Spirit Temple with the Longshot and/or jumping on top of the boulder and bouncing off to get the rupee? Did you know there is a big red fairy in such-and-such location. Did you know about the flower in the Forest Stage in the Lost Woods?
A: Yes, I know about all these things. I don't think there's one secret goodie in Zelda that I don't know about by now. If you read in the walkthrough that I did something differently or do not have all the fairy location listed that is because I made that walkthrough on November 25 and 26, 1998 as I was going through the game. There are some holes in it which are corrected in the Corrections section. Please read before you write.

Q: You NEVER answer my E-mails. I've sent you (insert # here) already and you haven't answered. Do you even read them?
A: You see, I truly wish I could communicate with every gamer on a personal level, but it's just not going to happen with the sheer volume of response I get from this site. I just sort of sigh when I click on my Inbox and it says "Receiving Messages 1 of 395." (that's about two days worth) I actually do try to READ all those mails so trust me it's not in vain to E-mail me, but it is way outside my ability to write back to all of them. Remember it's just me, Video Gamer X, not a staff of 10 or 12 people. It just amazes me the popularity that this site has attained. In fact, when I first started out, I was lucky to get 1 letter a month back in April of last year. Utterly Amazing.

Q: How come I don't see my name on the "Hall of Fame." Why don't I see my story?
A: Don't worry it will eventually get there. There are a lot of people who submitted for this, so I just have to process the letters. Still working on stories, some of these should be up soon.

Q: I think the Triforce is in Zelda 64 for such-and-such reasons.
A: I personally can not confirm nor deny the existence of the Triforce, but many official sources have said that it was not put in the game. This could be an error or perpetrated falsification to reveal it later (COULD BE is the key words in that sentance) but I highly doubt it. There are some oddball screenshots created out there in various Graphics programs that look pretty convincing. But until the day I PERSONALLY aquire the Triforce, I will no longer claim it as being absolutely real. I had been fooled once, and I won't let it happen again. If by some quirk of fate I or someone else finds it then I will be happy. I'm still convinced that the Triforce in the Center of the medallions on the Quest Status originally had a purpose that was taken out of the game or postponed for use with the 64DD and/or add-on. Oh, and about the 64DD, it's history, you won't ever see it unless you work for Nintendo of Japan and have the keys to some wherehouse where there are some of these left for "Experimentational Purposes". The Add-On well, who knows? No definite info is out yet about it. All Miyamoto said was that he hoped that someday he might take the stuff that was going to be on the 64DD disk and add it to the current Zelda 64 to make a "Special Edition." (This information was from an article in a video game magazine) Maybe in that game we will be able to find the complete Triforce. Until then, we'll just have to wonder, and go with what the storyline forces us to accept - Ganon has the Triforce of Power, Link has the Triforce of Courage, and Zelda has the Triforce of Wisdom.

Q: Could you help me/tell me how to make a website?
A: If I were to help everyone else make a website there would be no Odyssey of Hyrule. I'm sorry but I just don't have the time to explain the basics of HTML to everyone that asks. It's taken me a year to get as good as I am now, and I am not a pro. You kind of have to find your own style and go with it when designing a page. Copying someone else is bad, but learning from them is good.

Q: I know how to get into Gerudo as a Kid. (Followed by Long Complicated and False Procedure)
A: There is only two ways requiring the gameshark and a "Moon Jump" code. If you can get over the gate. If you try to go to the Gerudo's Fortress you will fall off the edge into the void and return from where you started. If you come in via the Haunted Wasteland with the "Moon Jump" code you will find that the Gerudo's recognize your Membership Card. A fellow named "BentWookie" even was the first to break with info on a 37th heart container piece that is obtainable in the room above where Link is captured, but of course you must have a Gameshark for this to work. This is only a glitch in the game caused by the device. Originally there was a Heart Container Piece meant to be there but they edited out of "obtainability" and put another one somewhere else. The gameshark allows you to get into that area of the game and thus allows you to obtain the extra Heart Container Piece.
