THE TRIFORCE - FACT OR FICTION

Since the creation of the Quest for the Triforce section of this site, I have been inundated with mail (500+ letters) concerning this pressing delemma. Some are for it and offer possible suggestions about ways of getting it, while others do not think that it is in the game at all, then there are those people, and there are a lot of them, that for whatever reason concoct preposterous convoluted tales about the aquisition of the Triforce involving procedures that would degrade the continuity of the game or otherwise waste a hopeful gamer's time. Albeit, there are some really good leads on this subject, but there is little proof and these false stories only add to the confusion. Most of these stories come from younger gamers that need attention for something. Perhaps I was a little hasty in declaring that screenshot total proof that the Triforce was in Zelda 64, but it does make you wonder if it is possible. In all honesty I think that there is most likely a way to get it in Zelda 64, but it may very well require the 64DD or an add-on cart to supply the rest of the informational requirements for integrating a new quest into the game. I also know this, in the many interviews with Miyamoto that Media sources have enguaged in, he has always said that this Zelda is special, and that there will be many hidden things in the game. Indeed, there were many hidden aspects to the game, but perhaps the most hidden of them all waits to be found. Is the Triforce in Zelda 64?

First of all, I will point out that if you were able to prevent Ganon from retreving the Triforce, it would most likely ruin Zelda 64's tenuous bond to A Link to the Past. Why? Because for the story of the imprisioning war to exist Zelda: The Ocarina of Time must follow the guidelines of what has already been laid down. Remember, Zelda 64 is a prequel to all other Zelda's. There was a interview with Miyamoto in which he said that it took place after Zelda: A Link to the Past, but he was mistaken or confused at the time. (I don't know how that could happen) He had inadvertantly switched the games. Indeed Zelda: The Ocarina of Time takes place prior to LTTP, because various storyline markers point to it being so. But, (there's always a big But...) it's not totally correct. If you remember, in LTTP, Ganon was in control of the entire Triforce, not just the Triforce of Power. Yes he was sealed into the Golden Land (Sacred Realm for you newbies) and needed his manifestation Agahnim to open the doorway by sending the descendants of the 7 wise men (7 sages) into the the Dark World (Ganon's Dimension of the Golden Land) to break the barrier between the world he originated from (Zelda 64,s Hyrule) and the Golden Land/Sacred Realm/Dark World. At the end of the game Link obtains the entire Triforce.

Now, there's another odd thing about Zelda 64. The triforce of courage is now embedded into Link's spirit, as well as the triforce of wisdom in Zelda's. Perhaps this is a throwback to NES Zelda when Zelda broke up the Triforce of Wisdom (or was it Courage? It's been a long time) and hid it in various dungeons around Hyrule. Perhaps she was able to extract it from herself, but overall this would be unlikely. I had always thought that the Triforce would grant the wish of the one who touched it, not shatter into three pieces and embed itself into the Link's Soul, Zelda's Soul, and Ganon's Soul. There are some storyline conflicts in Zelda 64 that make figuring out the true purpose of the Triforce in the game rather blurry. It seems that the issue was not touched upon enough by the creators. Personally, I can't see why Link can't get the Triforce of Power back from Ganon. To correct the incongruity of the storyline it would probably work better if Link and Zelda reunited the Triforce within the Sacred Realm/Golden Land and Left it for a future time. That would put the whole thing where it is supposed to be, have ganon sealed away, and properly set up for Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Do I think the Triforce is in Zelda 64? Well, probably not, but there is hope. I have a feeling it was meant to be part of the game, but in order to finish the game in time for Christmas, many storyline elements, and/or cinema scenes may have been cut leaving a more streamlined latter half of the game and sub-par ending. Money Talks, and Zelda had been pushed back many times. It is rather unfortunate that Miyamoto couldn't have been left to enhance the game beyond it's current status. If this game had been released in June of this year, I wouldn't doubt that it would be 512 MegaBits with far more quality in terms of storyline and character interactions. Don't get me wrong the storyline is above average for N64 games, but I know that it could have been even better. The Triforce may have never made it to the final game, or was postponed to the 64DD or a possible add-on cart. That is probably why it appears on your Quest Status, but is unselectable. I still think it is meant to be filled in, because there no space with a picture or design on it that is left unused or unfilled with something except for the Triforce. Seeing as the programmers are not ones to waste space then this is a likely scenario. The big supposed secret the Nintendo is hiding about Zelda could be that add-on cart I've been hinting about. Since the 64DD is never coming to the US, there must be an alternative plan. Perhaps there is a whole alternate storyline and quest that is only accessable in this additional cart that you put Zelda into, and put in the N64. Miyamoto himself said that Zelda was designed with plot "hooks" that would link with another quest or storyline. That would at least be an apology for that "needs improvement" ending. Yes, the Triforce is out there - some where, but it will continue to remain a mystery until official sources talk. I hope this clears up any confusion regarding the Triforce, Zelda 64DD, storyline conflicts, and the disjointed ending.
